My automatic tranny on my 86 N/A is going out and I've always wanted to get rid of it and swap it with an 88 Manual tranny since i know the 89-91 tranny is alittle different. I'm sure someone here has done this before. What is it that i need though(detailed) I KNOW i need the tranny, driveshaft, clutch, pedal, flywheel, clutch reservoir. How about the ECU and harness? any suggestions. Thanks people.

j9fd3s 10-24-2002 11:16 AM

i dont think you need the ecu or harness. you do need to make a bracket, the at is about .5" longer than the mt.

what braket are you talking about? i'm not sure

banzaitoyota 10-24-2002 11:48 AM

Tranny mount bracket. I have everything you need except for a modified bracket for 325 + shipping

blaze08 10-25-2002 02:37 AM

You really do!? Where are you located and what year is all the parts that you have. Off what car did it come off and how many miles when you pulled it out? And why?

banzaitoyota 10-25-2002 06:54 AM

I am in SC, I have several Parts cars. Tranny was from a 86 GXL has 122,000 miles on it, shifts nice, no grinding. Shipping will be 75 to Fla via truck frieght.

blaze08 10-25-2002 10:13 AM

Thanks man! Well i'm still looking around though. There are tons of Rx7's here in Miami. What I really want is all the parts from an 88 FC, with low miles. I've got 80k on my 86FC.

SO HAS ANYONE HERE DONE A CONVERSION BEFORE THAT CAN GIVE ME A FEW TIPS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!! THANKS

banzaitoyota 10-25-2002 11:13 AM

All the 86 and 88 parts are the same

i have driven both, and i find the fd is hard to drive. it gives you mixed signals, especially downhill. i find the fc and the fb/sa feels very stable and friendly. the fd probably would give you better numbers in strict testing, but i prefer the fc/fb/sa they are easier to drive fast.

or to put it another way, you have to be a better driver to get the same or better out of the fd

I also have both, and i feel alot safer in the FD3rd gen. I haven't lost control in it yet. But i've spun out in my FC. What does FB and SA mean?

banzaitoyota 10-29-2002 01:39 PM

I am in Aiken SC
