I desperately need new mounts, stuff is clanking and banging all around. The scalliwag solid mounts are cheap. I like cheap.

I pm'd one guy at the club that uses them, he says the extra vibration isn't really noticeable until higher rpm's. I want more words of experience from other folks. I have the mazdatrix competition-stiffnes front diff mount, if that affects anything.

banzaitoyota 04-14-2005 09:51 AM

Pat, I would stick to the mazdacomp engine and tranny mounts for a street car. You can get them at www.mazdaformance.com

I too have thought about soild engine and tranny mounts, as my car will eventually be competition prepped but still streetable. Does anyone here run solid mounts?

inanimate_object 04-14-2005 11:28 AM

I'd go for polyurethane mounts - they're stiffer than rubber but also quite cheap. Maybe a rotary is different, but a solid mounted engine is pretty coarse. I'm a bit of a hypocrite here because I'm solid mounting my engine - but then that's the way it was in the bike.

Engine: $50.52 each

Tranny: $30.23 each

total: $161.50

The reason I was asking about the solid ones is they're 50 and 30 for each pair, I guess it would be worth it to wait longer and get the regular kind?

Baldy 04-14-2005 12:31 PM

Actually now I'm wondering if that is the price for the pair or each, it isn't quite clear.

If you're going solid mounts simplest and cheapest would probably be make your own.

teknics 04-14-2005 05:17 PM

solid engine mounts on my car only gave me minor vibrations, not anything like putting them on a 350 or something. In all honesty after a couple days i stopped noticing the vibrations anyway.

kevin.

j9fd3s 04-14-2005 08:53 PM

my friends got the stiffer engine mounts on his car, and i find his car kinda rough, i suspect that the trans mount can be stiffer without affecting the car much though.

keep in mind i'm old, i like a smooth ride.

nismo convert 04-15-2005 11:09 AM

i made my motor mounts out of nuclear grade aluminum, i have had them for over a year now, vibrations were almost non existant, i usuall make them for 50 bucks us a set, but i have no time right now. no solid tranny mounts i am sceptical of, there are a lot of gears in there and the increased vibration can't be too good, but i could be wrong, likely won't shift as well, i would say keep your stock tranny mounts.

banzaitoyota 04-15-2005 05:10 PM

nuke grade AL?

I call BS

nismo convert 04-15-2005 06:43 PM

i Co-op'd at a nuclear plant call all the bs you want banzai. i'm even on the website. www.brucepower.com

banzaitoyota 04-15-2005 07:54 PM

I design Nuclear components and operated a nuclear power plant for 13 years, not a ******* intern for my summer vacation. You may have some AL laying around the plant but I seriously doubt you walked out with a certified, pedigreed chunk of the plant.

nismo convert 04-15-2005 08:38 PM

**** cerification comming from the plant is good enough for me lol. why would i need certification for motor mounts right https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

No, getting parts for you jeopardizes our mazdacomp eligibility. You cant do 2 auto-crosses a year?

banzaitoyota 04-20-2005 12:16 PM

However you can use those part numbers and buy them thru Mazdatrix or MAZDAFORMANCE.com, albeit for more $$$$

i'm about to change my engine...

don't think i'llbe doing much autocrossing like that.

scathcart 04-20-2005 09:32 PM

NVH does significantly in crease with solid mounts. While the change in vibrations to the passenger compartment may be tolerable, there is a greatly increased level of noise transmitted to the passenger compartment over stock/competetion rubber mounts. I am picky about this kind of thing, and because of this increase in NVH, would choose not to run them in my own car.

jello2 04-20-2005 11:05 PM

hey i have solid motor mounts(payed 50 for the pair), solid tranny mounts(paid 30 for the pair), and solid rear diff mount(paid 80), and i love it. i dont get much vibration at all and there maid of aircraft aluminum, theres a guy in ft worth tx that makes them and will ship them to whereever, he uses the screenname scalliwag, and is usually on the vintagerotary forum page, check him out he makes other rotary things too
