Anyone got a Series V ECU that they'd sell for cheap and/or loan out for testing? If it's within 100 miles of Des Moines we will go out and get it Saturday.

I am pretty sure the cibic got under 20 mpg when we took it to Des Moines.

I've got my jspec Series 5 T2 ECU. I'll sell that,if you are interested.



It had bad injector drivers but I recently replaced those. Works well now.

I'll call Matt later on and see what he wants to do.

i'm getting ready to pull the uim and test 'em, hey could this be a crank angle sensor deal???

I don't think so...I'm still guessing it's the ECU.



How are you planning on testing the injectors?

by attaching a ground and a 12 volt lead to them and listening for a clicking sound.

Well there aint much to do untill I get a ecu.

True...John had some ideas, but we'll see how everything goes.

Well, after I tested the leads coming off the ECU and got 0.0v while the car was at idle. I assumed they were bad. There was NO indication of any ECU failure by the ECU diagnostic, no codes. Everything seemed fine, except the obvious.



See, the front trailing and leading were grounding, I could tell this by the intermittent voltage readings I got off the DMM, but the rear were not.



To be honest, I checked EVERY other possible sensor, fuel line, 3 fuel pumps before I suspected the ECU. It was a REAL bitch, and I didn't even think about the ECU until I had exhausted every other possibility.



My thoughts are that his ECU is fried. Runs rough? Runs Rich? No Power? Sounds weird? Failure to find malfunctioning component(s)? Those were the symptoms mine had.



Try cleaning the plugs with a wire brush, then let the car idle for about 15-20 min. Pull the plugs and see if all four show signs of combustion i.e. starting to foul. This could be an indication of whether your injectors are firing.

So are his injectors pretty much just dumping fuel?

(If that's the case)

Yes and No.

If say 2 of 4 injectors are not working then the other two functional injectors will be dumping more than usual to make up for the lean condition caused by the lack of combustion, as dictated by the ECU. We've already determined that the ECU does not know its malfunctioning by a simple code check. So, it continues to operate as normal. Because the 02 sensor is reading the AFR from both rotors it won't realize that one rotor isn't getting any fuel at all. Thus the lean condition, I think.



Anyhow that's how it worked on my car.



If the injectors are not grounding then they aren't opening at all. This explains the lack of power and odd idle.



Chances are, if one or more of his injectors are not being grounded by the ECU, then the ECU is detecting a lean condition and dumping more fuel into the engine.



This is the only way I can explain the rich condition.



I can go much more in depth with this, if you need me too.

That all sounds like a load of fun...I think we should plug a new ECU in and see what happens. Hey Matt, wanna drive to OK tomorrow? j/k
