Anyone got a Series V ECU that they'd sell for cheap and/or loan out for testing? If it's within 100 miles of Des Moines we will go out and get it Saturday.

vosko 10-23-2002 10:27 AM

i DID but i sold it.... i have my panspeed but that doesn't help you seeing as i'm in NJ...

Road trip!

I'm driving out in 5 weeks...can't make 2 trips. I'll just send Matt out in the Civic. Nah, that would take too much gas. (the cibic gets worse mileage than my TII)

My TII still gets the mileage that it was rated at new....with 80 extra horsies. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

you must be reading some thing wrong. there is no way a t2 will get better mileage than a civic....

mike

Rotarydragon 10-23-2002 01:15 PM

You've never seen this civic....

Turbo II FC 10-23-2002 06:50 PM

I would have to say that my civic had worse gas mileage than my Fc as well. If your curious take a look here http://community.webshots.com/user/hatcheg6

UniqueTII 10-23-2002 07:24 PM

I am pretty sure the cibic got under 20 mpg when we took it to Des Moines.

OKIERX-7 10-24-2002 02:49 AM

I've got my jspec Series 5 T2 ECU. I'll sell that,if you are interested.

It had bad injector drivers but I recently replaced those. Works well now.

UniqueTII 10-24-2002 09:02 AM

I'll call Matt later on and see what he wants to do.

Rob x-7 10-24-2002 12:48 PM

Is there now 2 guys with the name 1revin7?

UniqueTII 10-24-2002 02:23 PM

Matt from IA is 1revin7, and 1revvin7 is from MN...Matt is going to get his name changed as soon as he can think of something else good. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rob x-7 10-24-2002 04:16 PM

7 revin 7 revin ra ra ra

Will that fit?

1revin7 10-25-2002 10:55 AM

hey, how much you want for that ecu??? Send me an email with your phone number and how much you want. I like that 7 e revin' or how about "1 non revin' 7"

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 11:14 AM

I was thinking richey rich.

1revin7 10-25-2002 12:46 PM

no, more like "poor house" or "I owe my repairs to Master Card"

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 12:49 PM

I meant the car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

*my eyes are still burning*

Are we doing anything to it this weekend?

Hey Okie, could you tell the drivers were bad by testing it, or did you have to assume they were the problem?

1revin7 10-25-2002 12:51 PM

i'm getting ready to pull the uim and test 'em, hey could this be a crank angle sensor deal???

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 01:17 PM

I don't think so...I'm still guessing it's the ECU.

How are you planning on testing the injectors?

by attaching a ground and a 12 volt lead to them and listening for a clicking sound.

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 01:40 PM

Oh...the old fashioned way...lol. You still want John and me to come out there tomorrow?

1revin7 10-25-2002 01:43 PM

Well there aint much to do untill I get a ecu.

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 02:06 PM

True...John had some ideas, but we'll see how everything goes.

Hey Okie, could you tell the drivers were bad by testing it, or did you have to assume they were the problem?

Well, after I tested the leads coming off the ECU and got 0.0v while the car was at idle. I assumed they were bad. There was NO indication of any ECU failure by the ECU diagnostic, no codes. Everything seemed fine, except the obvious.

See, the front trailing and leading were grounding, I could tell this by the intermittent voltage readings I got off the DMM, but the rear were not.

To be honest, I checked EVERY other possible sensor, fuel line, 3 fuel pumps before I suspected the ECU. It was a REAL bitch, and I didn't even think about the ECU until I had exhausted every other possibility.

My thoughts are that his ECU is fried. Runs rough? Runs Rich? No Power? Sounds weird? Failure to find malfunctioning component(s)? Those were the symptoms mine had.

Try cleaning the plugs with a wire brush, then let the car idle for about 15-20 min. Pull the plugs and see if all four show signs of combustion i.e. starting to foul. This could be an indication of whether your injectors are firing.

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 03:01 PM

So are his injectors pretty much just dumping fuel?

(If that's the case)

It sure seems like it. Well do that check with the plugs, and see what's up. Thanks for the info.

Yes and No.

If say 2 of 4 injectors are not working then the other two functional injectors will be dumping more than usual to make up for the lean condition caused by the lack of combustion, as dictated by the ECU. We've already determined that the ECU does not know its malfunctioning by a simple code check. So, it continues to operate as normal. Because the 02 sensor is reading the AFR from both rotors it won't realize that one rotor isn't getting any fuel at all. Thus the lean condition, I think.

Anyhow that's how it worked on my car.

If the injectors are not grounding then they aren't opening at all. This explains the lack of power and odd idle.

Chances are, if one or more of his injectors are not being grounded by the ECU, then the ECU is detecting a lean condition and dumping more fuel into the engine.

This is the only way I can explain the rich condition.

I can go much more in depth with this, if you need me too.

UniqueTII 10-25-2002 05:05 PM

That all sounds like a load of fun...I think we should plug a new ECU in and see what happens. Hey Matt, wanna drive to OK tomorrow? j/k

pengaru 10-25-2002 06:11 PM

damn i gotta get my car running and license so i can get in on these road trips https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
