I'm doing a little rewiring and was planning on adding a larger wire from the alterntor to the starter and battery. Question is: Do I need to leave the stcok wire in place? If the stock wire only goes to the same place I would like to remove it just to simplify the wiring. But if that wire goes to other unseen places, I guess I'll have to leave it. Mind you my engine bay is stripped down to the bare esentials, and I have only a heater as a creature comfort.

Sounds good, but I'm not sure about this part. Check into if you need wiring with the proper shielding so you dont mess anything up.

and of course post results when its done https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

i think it will help. i noticed that the 89+ cars have bigger (actually 2) wires there. i think it goes to the fuse box but i'm not 100%, the lazy mans way would be to run and extra wire and have 2 small ones

When I added a high amp alternator to my Jeep I had to add a much larger gauge wire from the alternator to solenoid because the stock wire kept going into meltdown. It was a fairly simple task, much like everything on my Jeep, not sure on the RX7, but just trace it back, as long as you run to the exact same spots you'll be fine.

I wonder about a second wire though, in theory doesn't the votage take the path of least resistance? Meaning you put a 10K resistor on a wire and run it to the same spot as a wire with a 5K resistor and the 10K will get no voltage no matter what the amp load... It would seem the second wire would serve an entirely different purpose, but I dunno. My amp gauge?

i think you might be right? its been too long since i dealt with that kind of electrics. i just noticed that the factory runs 2 wires from 89+, so i was thinking just to copy them?

Well my guess is one is for an amp meter or something to the computer. The other should be the voltage to charge the battery.

i think these go from the alt to the fuse block and then it splits. for some reason i dont want to remember this, i want to rewire the whole car (20b)

I will go recheck later( gotta go work), i have traced all my wiring since im rewiring the cpu harness and put my battery in the rear. I blieve there was an extra wire on my 88 then went to the cpu harness though, im pretty sure it was a tiny wire wrapped um i there, color white comes to mind. You're probably just gonna have to undoe it to find out for sure.
