I dunno, it can take alot longer if you don't have the right tools on hand. Flywheel puller, 54mm socket, large breaker bar/pipe (or impact gun) are some that come to mind. Engine stand adapter...

Isn't it a 52 mm socket? I use 2 1/8", which is about 53 mm.

Ok, I was just going by the 25 mm per inch rule.

25mm/inch may work for smaller sizes, but at a certain point the error in the precision accumulates to significant amounts https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I use both a hammer and a prybar. I've used a scissors jack as both a spring compressor and a frame straightener. Beat that! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

wow, these stories bring a tear to my eye, it is just so beautiful, I am getting the desire to find an engine, just to rebuild it, and port it, and turbo it, and, oh, umm, nevermind, mwahahaha

I hoist it up onto my chest, and after it's in I use a jackstand under the rear of the transmission to hold it in place.

It's hard to lift it too high when the car is only about 18" off of the ground. :P

man i've got you all beat here on the trans installation method

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

some rope through shifter hole, around rear of trans:

http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7/04-16...02/IMG_1284.JPG

piece of wood, wrap rope around wood tightly, rotate wood pulling rear of trans up til it touches

torque tunnel, then C clamp rope to wood:

http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7/04-16...02/IMG_1285.JPG

The rest is history:

http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7/04-16...02/IMG_1286.JPG

The nice thing about this method is it makes it alot less weight to support while under the car lining it up with the engine, and theres nothing in the way of your legs supporting the trans that you might kick out or just get frustrated by... However, using this method the rear will be a bit lower relative to the front (not level with the car like when installed) but I had an engine hoist attached to the front of the motor only pivoting the motor back into the car, which made things line up beautifully.

That skateboard comes in handy too

ahha https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png i've done it twice now in my driveway on jackstands, it's a piece of cake. I had alot more trouble changing my differential actually. But that was because of huge amounts of sleep deprivation and just plain stupidity. After giving up day #1 and taking some rest, it was done in 1 hour with a fresh mind next morning... ******* 'shortcut' ideas that end up making things impossible, I won't go into details https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

j9fd3s 08-15-2002 01:16 PM

we use a lift, and 2 people to pur the tranny in. its 9,000,000times better than crawling around on the floor
