Has any one seen aluminum rotors in an application? I have heard of such things but I am beginning to think it is an urban legend. Seems like the difference in temperature properties would be too different to be useful.

i think racing beat makes super lightweight ones but i dunno if theyre aluminum and im too lazy to look.

kevin.

I thought all Rotors, Housings where aluminum?

Racing Beat has been lightening rotors since the 70's

i thought rotors were cast iron and housings were aluminum. i know u can get the plates made of aluminum from racing beat but they are redicliously expensive

are we talkinga bout rotors as in engine rotors or brake rotors.

There are aluminum brake rotors.

They are made out of durachem.

which is a aluminum metal matrix. Super hard to work with. You have to cut it with water because it pretty much is sooo tough it dulls whatever is used to cut it.

Uhmm...

Engine Rotors Dude...

From what I understand, the lightweight rotors from racing beat are stock rotors, cut down with a CNC machine and balanced.

Our Super Lightweight Rotor Assemblies - both turbo and non-turbo - are machined lightened using a CNC (computer numerically controlled) mill. The initial weight of the rotor is approximately 9.7 pounds, and upon completion of the machining process the weight is reduced to approximately 8.7 pounds. In addition to the machine lightening process we also snap-ring the rotor gear to ensure it remains in place during high RPM operation. After completion of these machining processes we fully balance each pair of rotors with matching front and rear counterweights to provide an assembly capable of high RPM operation.

The non-turbo rotors are based on the stock 1989-92 rotors (9.7:1) compression ratio), while the turbo rotors are based on the stock 1989-91 rotors (9.0:1 compression ratio).

urban legend

Yeah, urban legend, but they do make Iron housings out of aluminum (if that makes any sense) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
