ok so my alternator is crap.



I see 3 options:



1) some gm alt people were talking about but i never got full info on

2) FD alt with dual pulley from the other place

3) rewound s5 alt.



im gonna see if i can fnid someone around here who redoes alternators and get a quote, but before i go hunting any ideas?



im leaning towards the GM if i can find more ifno about it as im tired of this 70-80A alternator bullshiat.

I looked into the GM alt.. The one I looked into is from a chevy V8, but adapted casing to fit on a 13B.. They have amperage bumped up too, but you might as well just go with the stock FD alt, it's pretty much the same..



Don't know if you've looked into GM alts by now and saw something you like or something other than a chevy V8 alternator..



Oh yeah and don't rebuild and bump up aperage on the stock FC alternators (at least the S4s).. I did, wasn't worth my time, I went to an FD alt.



For S5s you don't have to change the harness plug when you go FD. You do on S4s..



Last time there was a topic on this someone was saying how if you leave the car sitting for days people were suspicious of the FD volt regulator not shutting off or something... Put a slow drain on the battery? I dunno I don't remember so well. Anyways I did notice loss of crank power (signifigant enough) when I let mine sit for a week.. But mine is an S4 don't know if the S5/S6's are the same for wiring or not.. I had to adapt the harness plug so I dunno..



That's something I'll be handling in the near future while I have the dash torn apart and wiring harnesses removed..

Normally driving im getting arount 14-15V so im happy with everything on at idel im getting 13.5v AC, Wipers, Lights, Radio on but amps off. my voltage goes as low as 9.9 when the bass drops on my RF 800 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

this may not apply but i changed the alt in my t2, cause it wasnt charging. 2 years later i put it on my 83 and its got a steady 14v, so make sure the wiring and connections are sound

well i'm planning on switching to the fd alt soon myself, cos the s4 alt sux arse. just my 2 cents

i just got my FD alternator in the mail yesterday, i'll let you know what i think. I ordered it with the stock FD pulley. I have a lowerpulley and waterpump pulley from a cosmo 13b that i am going to try to adapt to run the multi ribbed belt on my 13bt instead of the Vbelts.

you can get GM powermaster alternators in small case or large case,

140-200+ amps, **** they even have 350 amp alternators



its very common for people to swap in these alternators, not

just on mazdas either.
