I didn't know whether to post here or in Gen D but since it concerns my FC I will post here.

I started a thread a while back about my 87 GXL blowing some smoke. Well.... it is back in the shop. The engine is being torn down as we speak. An oil seal or something. They are not sure yet but they know it is internal. Car runs great, good compression just started blowing smoke.

Only a little less than 5000 miles on the rebuild and already back in the shop.

****.

who built it?

yah if its 5000miles it was either rebuilt with bad parts or assembled wrong

It is a place here in Fort Worth. They were recommended to me by Rotary Performance in Dallas.

The owner has been a patient of my Father's for a long time and he raced Rx-7's for a number of years.

We shall see. They are not charging me for anything though but I would rather pay for something that stays together than not pay for something that will fall apart in 5K miles. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Well, I thought I would update my situation.

I went over to the shop on Friday to take a look at the motor and find out what was wrong.

According to the shop, the engine overheated and burned out one of the oil rings. He showed my the ring compared to a new one and it was in bad shape. The heat was enough going up through the block to also burn out the EGR valve. He said we caught it in time to not do any more damage than that. The gauge never registered an overheating problem or anything. He said that the radiator was blocked and I knew I needed a new one i just didn't think it was that bad. Luckily I had already purchased a fluidyne that they are putting on for me.

The car should be ready today. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Damn, you are lucky it didn't anymore damage. Must have been a coolant o ring. Thats why you always need to assess everything! I even had my oil cooler flushed...

Further update,

Got the car back today. Runs beautifully. They put in the new radiator and even in 100 degree heat with the air conditioner on, the temp gauge stays in the lower 1/4. With the old radiator it was above 1/2 to 2/3.

They found a leak in one of the lines from the oil cooler also. They put in a new power steering rack because of a leak that I had been dealing with for about 4 years.

Car runs great, feels great. Didn't realize how much I missed it until I got it back.

Sweet! Glad to hear it's running well again!
