Well it's a success.... After 3 years and a lot of headache. The Turbo II is alive. Major problem turned out to be the ECU was the issue with fuel. The car now has tons of power and has no problem breaking the tires loose in first gear at 7k rpms. That's not a clutch dump, that's under power going about 30mph. Now my only concerns are the coolant leaking from somewhere, and oil cooler leak and the alternator belt that keeps shredding. So my first question is does someone have a dual pulley for an alternator that they are looking to part with?

RicerJ 06-18-2011 09:04 PM

first the oil cooler leak might just be the lines which are made out of cloth and tend to leak like a bitch after they have been leaking for a week so replace those with ss braided lines the coolant leak might be the hoses or a drain plug as for the alt belt keeps shredding idk what can cause that

rtrypwr98 06-19-2011 09:17 AM

I've read that when the air pump is removed there isn't enough tension from the alternator and the belt will burn up. So I guess a dual belt pulley on the alternator will give the tension required. The oil cooler is leaking bad...you're right probably the lines. They were pretty oily when I put the thing on but was more worried about it running. The Thermostat neck on the block is plastic and had a crack in it. I put some plastic weld on it to tide it over till I could get it running good enough to find all the leaks.....I couldn't even get to operating temp without a foot on the gas so kinda hard to be in 2 places at once. Will replace with a stainless one soon but the buzzer keeps coming on for low coolant and I have to add just a small amount. Dont see any puddles and don't smell from exhaust. Ever had problems with air bubbles in the system?

RicerJ 06-19-2011 01:16 PM

Is it s4 or s5 from the plastic neck part im guessing s5 and i think its mazdatrix that sells an aluminum replacement for it but as far as air in the system just bleed it normally then run it a bit with the cap on but not tight and the neck might still give you problems by letting in air so replace it and you might have a shot at getting no air in the system

rtrypwr98 06-19-2011 08:58 PM

AHHHH yes. Good call. I didn't think about it letting air in just thought about it leaking out. Hmmm. Will get that coming as well right away. I'm not so concerned about the oil leak as that damn loud Low coolant buzzer that makes my head hurt. Thanks for the advice

RicerJ 06-19-2011 11:07 PM

no prob but you will want the oil leak fixed before you drive it hard also carry oil with you if you dont plan on fixing it right now

rtrypwr98 06-21-2011 04:14 AM

It seems with rotaries I will want to keep a quart of oil with me anyways right? I'm planning to fix all the problems soon. I've been sitting on this car for 3 years to finally get it running I don't want to screw it up :-P Will post some pics soon now that I can say I have a 7 not just a nice looking flower planter.

RicerJ 06-21-2011 04:40 AM

Lol i have figured with my na i dont need to carry oil if i do my regular maintenace on it i dont burn much so its safe range

j5sense 06-22-2011 01:34 AM

wow i just posted on your other post from the 1st. So what fixed it? did you replace the pcm or was it the fuel?

please let me know asap as I have the SAME problem with my turbo II

RicerJ 06-22-2011 01:49 AM

there is a bit of difference between s4 and s5 t2's so you might get it fixed by the same way or you might not dont count on it just make your thread and explain what you have done to it whats going on and if there is anything to check

rtrypwr98 06-22-2011 04:29 AM

If you think about it. Having 2 injectors that don't fire is a long shot that it's a problem with both injectors. The common link is the ECU as it is what completes the ground for the injectors. So it was a grounding issue through the ECU and once I swapped them out it ran perfect. I have a USDM ....ECU in there now instead of the JDM and it works just fine.

rtrypwr98 06-22-2011 05:14 AM

this is what fixed my car. I had a spare ECU laying around for an S5 turbo

RicerJ 06-22-2011 08:22 PM

good deal yea its hard to make a call if its actually the ecu or not and if you got a spare one thats the best thing right there

j5sense 06-22-2011 10:05 PM

i ran a compression test... i got no compression in the back rotor... gonna pull the motor friday

RicerJ 06-23-2011 12:05 AM

are you getting anything out of it cause it could be a stuck seal

j5sense 06-23-2011 01:01 AM

i go nothing on the rear rotor. if i remove the gauge i can hear a wooshing (with the motor turning over) but nothing on the gauge, tryed it twice to verify

RicerJ 06-23-2011 01:08 AM

did you have a strange sound before it stopped working

j5sense 06-23-2011 01:16 AM

i bought the car with it not working. it sat for 9 years. it only has 64,000 miles (1987 turbo II)

RicerJ 06-23-2011 02:01 PM

well sitting for 9 years isnt good most likely the coolant seals went and flooded the rear

Yeah. I'll know more thus weekend when I pull it apart

RicerJ 06-23-2011 03:16 PM

you better start looking for a rear housing and rotor because if it sat in coolant for 9 years i doubt it is salvageable sorry to say

j5sense 06-23-2011 04:52 PM

Yeah a guy in town has one for cheap.

RicerJ 06-23-2011 05:12 PM

just make sure the front rotor is the same as the rear

j5sense 06-23-2011 05:25 PM

K I'll get some pics up in a new thread this weekend. Total thread jack

RicerJ 06-23-2011 07:07 PM

yea thats for sure

rtrypwr98 06-23-2011 08:42 PM

I was just going to add that the motor I took out of my 89 was a s4 motor. So if you have need of any parts I have a whole motor. The seals were stuck so it had no compression as well but the irons look good. I don't mind the thread jack... just nice to see people chatting in here.

RicerJ 06-23-2011 09:28 PM

The rotors need to be matching for it to be good idk if the housings are different
