well, i believe the cause of my alternator beltS to break off is the pulley not aligned properly. There`s black dust all around the alternator which makes sense...

how do you align them?

btw, i broke 3 in 1000miles...

Do you have a long straight edge? You can lay it across the face of the Alt. pulley, and see how far off it it from the water pump and eccentric pulleys.

Make sure the metal spacer, for the bolt, is behind the alternator. mine was backwards, and was totally messed up.

what about the spacer on the air pump...does it go on the rear or the front...i put mine on front and didnt see to cause any problems

phinsup 07-23-2002 02:48 PM

On the front??? That is probably your issue right there.

winger 07-23-2002 02:53 PM

that was after it broke for the 3rd time....

phinsup 07-23-2002 02:54 PM

ahh okeedoke

Can you tell by looking at them that they are out of alignment?

is there a pulley diagram in the FSM (im at work)...

phinsup 07-23-2002 02:57 PM

I don't recall seeing it there, but I am sure there is.

Do you have all your belts hooked up in the correct pulley grooves?
