Bone stock 1988 Vert.

OK, the 88 Vert I bought 2 weeks ago is missing the air silencer. The hose from the air valve is intact, as is the air chamber, but the silencer apparently broke off (there is a busted plastic nipple still in the hose, and no silencer to be found). The PO had simply routed the open hose into the area under the front airdam, is this OK? I haven't noticed any annoying buzzing from this, should I route the exhaust in any direction or any area (from what I understand, it's just a simple exhaust system, shouldn't really make any difference, right?)

Second, and the harder question. There is a metal box, about 1x2.5x4 inches, enclosed, mounted under the front bumper, with a wire coming out (maybe two within a single sheath), the wire runs along the drivers side inner fender, then into the passenger compartment (haven't had a chance to trace it further). It appears to be aftermarket (the paint is non-factory, and the wire is not in the factory loom that travels right next to it into the cockpit). Now, when you are looking at the front lower bumper, where the retangular vent holes are, and the 4 corner holes have "block off" plates mounted, this replaces the lower drivers side plate.

So, I was hoping someone would recognize this as some standard aftermarket thing that I have not yet come accross.

Thanks all!

well the air silencer is for when the airpump air is diverted to the atmoshere (rpms above 3500), it can make a mooing noise, but the silencer is there for you, it doesnt need it to function.

#2 i dunno

Can u get any pixs of #2? Maybe its part of an alarm system, shock sensors?

sounds like part of an aftermarket alarm my car had. Does the metal box tic when you shake the car? Mine did. It ticked with the slightest bump. Does yours do that?

I'll try tracing the wire through the firewall this evening, but I doubt it's an alarm component, this car shows no other signs of having an external alarm, and this box is completely visible, out in the open (the factory alarm does work).

hmm thats wierd, do it have any writing on it?

I think we have a winner...followed the wire under the seat and into the space behind the ashtray, where it ended in 4 small wires (20 awg) with small connectors. Also noticed the two small screw holes on the side of the center console, where a mount would have been. So, looks like one of the PO had an ancient radar detector...

I know you all have been waiting holding your breath for my final diagnosis https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png
