Ok so I want to cool down the air my intake takes in and I want to make an air box for it. What would be a good matierial that doesnt absorb alot of heat to make it out of?

Cosmo Donk 03-31-2004 02:51 PM

Please do a search for "CAI" or "Cold Air Induction" or something like that. There are a lot of designs out there, even a template. Aluminum will work fine because it does not hold heat well, so if it is thin gauge it will keep out the hot air nicely.

I dont want a cold air intake, all I wanted was good matirials to make an airbox out of. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...closedeyes.gif

Just curious by why would you bother to make a new box and not go with cold air? The plastic box already does not absorb much heat but even if you had it gold plated on the ouside and insulated like a thermos it won't hlpe that much without fresh air.

drunkin_idiot 04-01-2004 06:14 PM

the reason is because I think I have vapor lock or some sort and I wanted to suck colder air in when I start my car , do you think this would not help?

ColinRX7 04-01-2004 06:36 PM

I don't understand what you want to do here.

You may be misinformed as to what vapor lock is. Vapor lock is when fuel boils in the gas line. A resulting bubble then blocks the fuel from moving forward. You could fill your airbox with ice, and it wouldn't fix the air bubble problem. If you do know what vapor lock is, what makes you think the fuel line, which runs down the opposite side of the car from the cat, is getting hot enough to boil fuel? If know all about vapor lock and you're sure you've got it, the fix for vapor lock is cooling the fuel lines, not cooling the incoming air.

ok sry Im a dumbass, I guess I was missinformed thx for the help anyways. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

use aluminum sheets, cheap, easy to work with.

whoa buddy, you may call yourself the drunkin_idiot but dumb ass is taking it a bit far. I just gave you three answers because I thought there could be three scenarios. Lets look at it from a different perspective, what are you trying to fix?

drunkin_idiot 04-02-2004 08:43 PM

ok Im trying to fix my car not starting, I figured it was vapor lock because I live in Az and its crazy hot here and its already like 100 degrees here and I figured my fuel was to hot to start the car. Ive also thought it was the battery but I dont know because I have tried to jump my car with jumper cables and it still wont start. The only time my car starts is when its really cooled down, and sometimes it doesnt when its cooled. So I dont even know if the heat is the problem im getting real desporate to find the answer to why my car almost never starts. Im beginning to think its hopeless. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

I’ve been in 120 degree Phoenix and what you’re describing sounds like a common hot start/flooding issue. If the injectors are leaking after shutdown, you’ll loose compression, and it will be hard to start. If the motor is old, AND your down on compression, AND the injectors are leaking, it will be EXTREMELY hard to start. If that sounds like you, a fuel kill switch may be in your near future. You may want to do a search on flooding.

drunkin_idiot 04-03-2004 04:00 PM

where can I find a fuel kill switch, and what does it do because I think you are dead on and completely right on the problem. What should I do.

marcus7 04-03-2004 11:14 PM

Toward the bottom of this page is a section on how to build a fuel cut off switch.

drunkin_idiot 04-05-2004 03:33 PM

I was reading that page and it says loss of compression is there any way to restore compression on rotories?

CGeek2k 04-05-2004 04:36 PM

Best way is a rebuild. There are ATF and MMO tricks, but they are, at best, a temporary fix, and there are many doubts as to whether or not the ATF trick does anything.

Seppuku 04-05-2004 05:21 PM

A rebuild is the only way to restore compression. The compression loss is cuased by worn seals.

drunkin_idiot 04-06-2004 02:06 AM

wow bad news ive only had this car for a short term ,if I would have know this I would have never bought it. ahhhh:( now I am depressed. soooooo sad ima cry. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif
