I just bought a new alpine CDA-9886 to put in my second gen 88 RX7 and I have wired it in, checked the harness twice and everything is hooked up correctly and yet. I cannot get sound out of my speakers. any idea why this would be?

Maybe the Alpine is busted?

im not thinking so, seeing as it turns on and works flawlessly except for the sound issue

could it be that I have to remove the factory amp?

You can't use the factory amp, you have to bypass them or find a way to switch them on, personally i would just bypass them, i had to do this in my vert on all the speakers (i replaced the door speaks)

with the stereo pulled out, check the speaker wires with a spare speaker before pluggin them into the harness. some fc's we're amplified from stock so the signal wires might have been low output .. i dont remember exactly how i did it on my vert.. but try that first.. since your radio would be on and directly powering a speaker that way.. then you can test the other three sets of wires.. usually the green purple grey and white are the speakers if they are not labeled.

is there a recommended method for bypassing it. I did just rip out the one thats on the passenger side of the dash. looks like its the only one seeing as it had 9 wires going into it lol. (my car has 4 speakers. so thats 8 plus 1 ground)

you can just run wires straight from the speaker ones on the head unit and route them all the way to the doors.. the other way is to find where they are after the amp and wire them to there.

yeah i just ran all new wires to all the speakers

With the Alpine pushing 18 watts RMS per channel, I doubt the factory amp would give you any benefit. I don't know the specs on that unit, but it's rare for factory amps to push much in the way of power. You can either sort the factory speaker wires out at the amp, or run new wires to each speaker.

Pretty much a rehash of the excellent advice already offered! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif
