Anybody know if somebody makes an aftermarket steel or aluminum waterneck for the S5 cars? I hate the plastic ones and flat out don't trust them after the constant abuse and heating/cooling... I know that over the years they turn brown and become very brittle. The S4 uses a metal one, so why did mazda go to plastic? Any reason on this?

If I can't find a metal one, i'll be making one....

teknics 01-12-2006 02:22 PM

umm Apex13b on here made one or two not that long ago on a lathe, they looked like nice pieces, might try pming him or he might look here.

and yes i hate the plastic neck too...and its $50 from the dealer, give or take some.

Do the S4 necks bolt onto the S5?

i wonder how hard it would be to redo an s4 neck, so it fits an s5. hmmm [goes to look at em in the back]

j9fd3s 01-12-2006 04:38 PM

be tough. the s5 is a smaller diameter and the bolt holes are in bulges that stick out

One320B 01-12-2006 04:43 PM

Yea, way ahead of you on that one, lol.. I have an extra s4 and I was like...maybe just cutting/welding a new flange would work...no, not the case, lol.. that would be nice though.

I just don't know why mazda got away from the metal, maybe cost..who knows.

Rob x-7 01-12-2006 04:50 PM

too bad he wont make a run of them, he has one for me, I just need to get it from him https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

you could just run the whole s4 water pump assembly if you have a spare one.

then with the s4 pump you can use the s4 neck.

well i know he isnt on the stock ecu, so the different sensors dont matter, i dont really see any other reason it wouldnt work.

you need the s4 front cover also

1Revvin7 01-12-2006 09:35 PM

There is a site that sell those, I just saw it last week. Damn if I can remember the link....

One320B 01-12-2006 10:44 PM

Damned you revvin ..>THINK THINK, lol..

Yea, i considered swapping over to the S4 front cover/waterneck/pump, etc. I have uber S4 parts laying around...but I think it would be nicer to just swap the neck. Much less headache...

We'll see how it all goes. That lathed part looks nice though..I don't have access to a lathe so I'll probably just have to go w/ tubing, flanges and some fancy welds...

if someone sent me theirs so i could draw it up i could have them made....

The S4 pump with fit the S5 front cover just fine. I just test fitted one. The problem is mounting an S5 pump to an S4 cover. There are clearance issues that can be address with a die grinder.

One320B 01-29-2006 02:51 PM

Yea, I can get a new one, but I'd rather not have plastic...

..I'm waiting on my buddy to get moving on his '68 stang project so I can get in the shop and see what I can do about making a metal one, lol...

Nospig 05-11-2006 04:35 PM

The stainless option.

Nospig 05-11-2006 04:38 PM

One320B 05-11-2006 10:45 PM

Hrm... I put that on the backburner while i moved forward with the FB project...but I may take you up on that next week. What would shipping charges be to the states though...

Nospig 05-12-2006 12:41 AM

One320B 05-12-2006 11:45 AM

I'm actually going to an electric water pump setup...no waterneck needed, lol. I knew there was a reason I skipped that.
