Which engine management system do you recommend? What problems have you experienced with them?

I'm planning on getting one soon, I want to eliminate the CAS (and drive gear on eccentric shaft) and use the wheel/magnetic sensor, and would like to eliminate the AFM (switch to speed/density)... I would like something with knock retard support, and something that can control my electric fan. I also would like to keep the stock gauge cluster if possible.

Right now the electromotive TEC3 is looking very attractive, Motec supports knock retard also but is generally overpriced.

I also am curious about the temp sensor that is in the iron housing? Most of these aftermarket systems use GM sensors, does this sensor get replaced or is it compatible with the GM sensors so you can use it as-is (change connector)? I don't think that spot on the iron would easily be tapped to take a GM temp sensor, if even possible.

I've heard alot of good things about the Haltech's but I don't understand why they don't support knock retard at all, most of the problems with false knock seem to be related to valvetrain noise, piston/rod slap and other mechanical noises in piston engines. It seems like a rotary would be much less prone to false knock, and the sensitivity of knock sensors is tuneable also. I might boost my NA later on (boosted high compression motor) so knock retard is an important safety-net feature for me. I also want a system that supports wide band O2.

Any input appreciated.

tec III is awesome but sorta hard to install and expensive! haltech runs great...... i have one. car runs very smooth. the best way is going to be figure out the features you need and how much you want to spend. all name brand EMS are very good https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I've been doing some more research and it looks to me that the E6K doesnt have a thermofan output... The E11spec sheet mentions support though, blah. TEC3 supports it. Anyone know for sure if the E6K supports controlling a thermofan?

i'm using my e6k to run a fan. and i'm using the stock mazda temp sensors. basically it shakes out like this imo

tec3: excellent unit, easy support, has the best ignition, but you have to look at it, it is hard to tune but once you get it tuned it should be superior due to using 2 load inputs

motec: it prolly the best but nobody has it because its $7000!

autronic: its like stock. uses knock sensor. i dunno if supports an ignition split for a 2 rotor. it has a self tuning feature that works. it runs around $2500

microtech: they are hard to get, you will have no support, the unit is kinda basic you dont have as much resolution as an e6k so it might be hard to get it to run good

wolf: ask 13bace, i dont know a lot about it

haltech e6k: its the benchmark every other ecu is compared against, it runs old software, but it is easy to setup and work with. it only uses one load input, and it doesnt have sequential and staged injection at the same time.

haltech e11: its better than the e6k, it can run seuqential and staged on a 3 rotor, you can have 2 maps on the fly, it will run the metering pump if you want too.

What about SDS? anyone have any experience with their stuff? It's cheap https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I was also looking at megasquirt but it would still require a solution for ingition.

i looked at the sds stuff, and its the same as a haltech. its like $700 for the fuel only, the e6k can be had for under $1000 if you get it from oz. the sds is supposed to be good but they have kinda priced themselves out of the market.

Did you have to rig anything to get the thermofan controlled by the e6k? I only see intercooler fan control in the e6k specs sheet from teh haltech site... but the e11 spec sheet mentions thermofan control https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif
