Say, do any of you happen to know of a maker of replacement flash-to-pass lenses? I'm missing one, and I know I can scrounge until I find someone parting out a car and maybe get it from them, but if I can replace both lenses with nice new parts, even better.

Any ideas? I know rx7.com sells a pair of Japanese-model lenses with "integrated city lights" - anyone know if those are an easy bolt-in replacement for a US-model (87) Rx-7?

The only ones I know of are the j spec ones.

It is two nuts, I think 10 mm, that hold them in, and you would have to wire up the city lights. I don't think it would be too hard.

Yeah, it's simple. This guy has them:

I hear the light kits are really expensive.

I think that the Japanese FTP lights are about $175.

That's not much more than a pair of stock FTP lenses.

UniqueTII 06-20-2002 10:11 AM

Damn...I didn't know the stock ones were so pricey.

Yeah, it's called the shaft pricing plan.

i just removed mine when they cracked on my GTU looked pretty good https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png i'll do the same on my TII when they break https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

UniqueTII 06-20-2002 11:45 AM

I was checking how to take them off of my TII and the passenger side one broke. Instant cold air intake. I was at the track when it happened, but I don't know if it helped my times or not. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Just fill the holes before you paint the front end.

vosko 06-20-2002 12:39 PM

I hate the FTP lenses because they always get messed up.

i've only seen one of my friends car which looked new then again i think his car was crashed before he got it so that could be the reason https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Shane.Trammell 06-20-2002 03:11 PM

just leave the ftps off. It looks pretty good and it gets more air into the intake.

Vermillion 06-20-2002 04:14 PM

Hey, thanks for the info gents!

I guess simply taking my other FTP lens out would be one way to "even up" the look of the car, but I don't know if I like the look of it. My car is white, and somehow I think that adds to the "missing part" look. I think I'd be able to get away with the missing lenses better on a darker-colored car, but maybe that's just me.

Maybe I should try painting the insides of the FTP cavities black in order to make them look a little more "intentional". As has been pointed out, the FTP lenses really aren't neccesary. Drivers in MO are too dumb to know why I'm flashing my lights at them anyway, so I never even use them for their intended purpose.

Those Japanese lights look much nicer than the lenses I have. I did find the US lenses at Mazdatrix - $62.28 each. I wouldn't want to replace just one - since my current lens is old and scratched, they wouldn't match, so it would cost me $124.56 to replace the pair. Compare that to $174.95 for the Japan-spec lights, and they don't seem like THAT bad of a deal - you pretty much get reamed either way. At least the Japan-spec parts are a customization and not simply a repair. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

p.s. Thanks to the mods for moving this thread here, and my apologies for posting it in general. Dumb newbie move, won't happen again.

90N/A Rex 06-20-2002 04:35 PM

I paid $45 a piece from mazda.

Rob x-7 06-20-2002 06:35 PM

Same here, less then $90 for the pair from Mazda, they look soooooo good when they are new. At that price, Ill replace them every few years if need be.
