Does anyone no if i can do away with ABS, if so how to go

about doing it? (my pump is leaking, and 2400.00 for a new

1 or around 550.00 for a used 1 i think i can do without

ABS if possible)

Yah! Stupid ABS pump. I can't believe that a little POS like that can cost $2400. I would be afraid to buy a used one, cause it would probably start leaking too. I hear that some folks have bypassed the ABS successfully. I don't know if the master cylinders are the same or not, but I think there's a proportioning valve or something that's different. I've considered ripping the parts off a non-ABS car and running new lines to the calipers. Seems to me if you replaced the whole mess, you wouldn't have to worry about what parts would work with your current system. Surely you could put a whole new non-ABS system in the car for less than 2400 freakin' dollars! :newburn:

Went to the junkyard Saturday with my wife. Very romantic.

It was a beautiful day. We actually found a 2G and in pretty good shape. It was an 88 SE (no ABS), so I took all the hard brake lines from the master cylinder and proportioning valve (got them too) to where it hooks up to the rubber hose at each wheel. My plan is to do away with the ABS pump and just run the lines from the non-ABS car. I won't be tackling it for another couple weeks, but I'll let y'all know how it goes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Sheet! May 21st! Okay, so I'm running a little behind schedule...

Folks, I have successfully eliminated my leaky POS ABS pump. It ain't a lot of fun, but nothing too terribly difficult. I yanked all the old brake pipes from the master cylinder to the ABS pump and to both front calipers and to the rear junction block. Replaced them with the pipes off the non-ABS car. They fit perfectly! The ABS pump must weigh 30 lbs! Weight reduction! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

Replaced the master cylinder with a non-ABS rebuild from Advance Auto ($50). Bled the heck out of it, and it works. I have a good solid pedal. Now to clip the wire to this stupid ABS light on the dash... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Total investment: About $70. Total hours? A bunch, but I'm pretty meticulous. All the lines are neat and run in the stock location with all the clamps and spacers. Make sure you have a 10mm flare nut wrench before you try this. A good one, or you'll round off some of the fittings. Also, its easy to cross thread the pipe fittings into the proportioning valve, since the valve is aluminum. Good thing I had the extra one from the junkyard car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

P.S. Brakes are an important safety feature, so be sure to enlist the services of a qualified brake professional. Results may vary... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
