I've done searches on both forums and have had no luck. I'm looking for information or, better yet, instructions on the removal and replacement of the Upper Intake Manifold. Through my searches, I've been able to determine that it's "easy", but I have a fear of screwing something up on my daily driver. Can someone with knowledge about this please offer some steps on how to do this and include things to look out for, potential obstacles, how many gaskets will need to be replaced?

Thanks in advance.

Go to http://www.fc3s.org/, and go to their "HOW - TO'S." They have the FSM there. I think you will only need one gasket, the one between the LIM and UIM. Don't forget to use a little RTV to ensure no vac leaks.

I have a how-to for removing your fuel injectors which requires taking the UIM off. It may help for some more insight into it.

That's a nice site, Cosmo. Thanks for your input.

I'm still looking for more input on this, though.

Thanks.

Not sure what info you are looking for but I will give out a few pointers.

- If you leave the TB connected it will be easier. There is no TB gasket so don't look to hard for that:) There is a black spacer. Also, make sure to put the black spacer on the correct way when reassembling.

- There is coolant flowing through the TB so now is the time to do the TB mod if you want. It will remove the cold start high rev and the coolant through the TB.

- The lower coolant hose to the TB is a PITA. You will need to prop up the UIM and take a pliers to the clamp so you can pull the coolant hose. Water will leak out so be ready for that, or let it piss out:)

- You will need 1 LIM to UIM gasket. Make sure to sand off, scrape off, etc., the old gasket material.

- Make sure you mark, or remember, where the vacuum hoses go. Now is the time to change them!

- You can leave the throttle cable(s) connected!

- There is a bolt hiding on the front of the TB that will hold it down if you don't loosen it. You should not have to remove it.

Hope this helps and please post any other questions you might have.

If you're doing all that, you might as well take out the rats nest and run new fuel lines while your at it and rewrap the engine harness (I noticed mine was wearing through at certain places).

Thanks very much again. Actually, a perusal of the FSM revealed that I'm concerned with the Dynamic Chamber, the component through which the Throttle Body feeds. I hope I haven't caused confusion with references to the Upper Intake Manifold...I'm not sure if they're the same thing.

Cosmo Donk 06-25-2003 04:12 PM

Yah, the dynamic chamber is the UIM. The engineers just like to call it something spiffy:) I suppose if you want to be specific it would just be the part that the TB feeds into and the runners come out of:)

You want to put two UIM's on?
