The continuing saga: My 91 n/a is still not running properly. Usually it won't fire on the rear rotor... but sometimes we can get it to run on both. There seems to be some sort of exhaust or timing issue maybe. When we get it cranked... sometimes it will run decently smooth... sometimes it will miss and sputter. When I got the car, the catalytic converter was blown open. My mechanic said that when he got it running, he noted the exhaust gettign cherry red under there. So he cut the pipe to see if it was blocked... then disconnected it at the engine... same issue. We're beginning to think timing, but I really don't know how to adjust the timing on these. New to rotaries. Anyone run into anything like this and have an idea? I've spent two months now trying to get this car on the road. Thanks for any help!

I agree, its you're timing.

There is a crank angle sensor on the front drivers side of the engine. It sort of looks like a distributor without the cap on it.

You need to adjust that.

You should really get you're hands on a service manual for specs and other info if you don't already have one.

also theres a 1 pin green connector by the battery, gound that and turn the key on engine off and the ecu will spit out any codes it has

Hey... thank! Yeah... I found the FSM last night. Should help me with a lot of little questions. Still... it's great to have input from experienced people. We'll see what this timing does...

lunarwynd,

my car is having the same issues and the dealership is telling me that i need a new engine.. did you have a compression test done to rule out that you needed a new engine.. ?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png
