Okay, so I just bought a 91' the other day but I've got some problems I wanted to ask people about. First off, when I'm idol the tachometer shows me at a little over 1k RPMs if the engine is cold. But if I warm up the engine it slowly starts to move to about 500 RPMs. Don't know if it's supposed to do that, didn't with my last RX-7 (86). Secondly, when I take my foot off the gas and then slowly press it, it feels like my car starts to jump, like a lot of power was pushed through it. It's hard to explain and it doesn't help that I'm really bad at explaining it. It's kind of like when you shift to a lower gear and the car gets that little push after you hit the gas. It does that but I'm not shifting, I'm just taking my foot off the gas then putting it back on slowly. And it only does that when I push the pedal maybe half an inch. Anyway, if anyone can help me out with these problems then I would be most grateful!!

its normal for a car to idle higher to warm up, then for the idle to drop down when its warmed.

Im not following your description on the throttle thing, but maybe see if the throttle cable is binding at the throttle body

yeah, I know what you mean by the lack of description. It's really hard to explain. Someone who drives it can tell what I'm talking about. Of course you can't so that's the best I can do.

But with the idle thing, if I don't let it warm up then sometimes my car will just die. Most of the time it's when I push in the clutch. But if I let the car warm up for about 3 mins it's fine. Talk about a little crazy sometimes.

And I would check the throttle cable...if I knew what I was doing. But since I don't work on cars I won't touch it. I'll probably have someone take a look at it, a professional. Unless the throttle cable is easy to work on.

Calibrate your TPS. That causes your car to be jumpy on light part throttle. If its far enough out of whack, 1500 rpm will surge also.

Check the second gen FAQ for lots of good info.

My RPMs seem to slowly go down when I'm in Idle and I press the brakes. It's weird. They don't drop much at all, probably only around 100 to 200 but it goes back up if I take my foot off the brake.

Any explanation to that one?
