I am preparing an 87' RX7 for Racing in SCCA, Autocross, and COMMA events. I have a higher compression 91' motor that I want to put in the car. Are there any major electrical changes(e.g. harness) that pose any great difficulty? Any other advice electrical or mechanical would be appreciated in relation to this swap. Also, any advice in preparing a 2nd gen. for racing would be great!

Ok, about the motor, yes..I believe you are going to need a 89+ Harness for that motor..I can't remember exactly what is different, because the only 89+ rex I've put a motor in was a T2, but I know there are differences. Also, w/ the 89+ motors, if you don't already know, you will need the 89+ flywheel/counterweight/and most likely clutch. The 87 tranny should work though. If you plan to use the car in AutoX, a reliable, high RPM, motor is what you want...so if the motor isn't assembled, then I'd suggest using the strongest parts(seals, etc) when assembling it. If the motor is together already, just hope that it was built good, and do a proper break in.

As for prepping an Rx7 for AutoX, it depends on whether you want a dual action (street/strip/track) car, or just a daily driver w/ some attitude. I'd go for the suspension upgrades like the Strut tower bars, stiffer springs, sway bars from a T2 if you don't already have one, and of course new shocks. Also, a good clutch is needed in AutoX if your car is manual, because you'll be heal-toeing the **** out of it while racing! Drop off the A/C but leave the P/S just cuz its easier to drive that way. Um..take off any unneccessary weight, and check with the rules that apply to your class, and take out any interior parts allowed.
