i recentky put my rebuilt engine in my car it turns on real quick if you put the foot on the, gas it doesn't turn on by itself like it should. But even when you turn it on it doesn't idle you have to leave the foot on the gas then it stays on around 2000 rpm with the foot on the gas still then it starts to rev up from 2000 to 2600 rpm continously.(up and down)but if let go of the gas it shuts down, any of you guys have an idea why is doing that?as far as i know i have all the vacuums etc. all hooked up.any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

First, turn down that idle. My idle was at 1,500 and bobbed up and down because that's too high, it just is. My brother loosened my throttle cable and it sat RIGHT at 1,000, NO problems. If just lowering the idle doesn't fix it, then check your TPS.

When you first start the car, keep it revved to about 2,000 with your foot for about 15 seconds or so, then just let it go and let it adjust on it's own. That helps to warm it up for just a second, and then just let it sit there till you SEE the temp gauge move, then you're ready to drive.

but the car doesn't idle at all, it just stays over 2000 with my foot on the pedal and if you try to go below that ,it shuts off.

maybe you should turn the idle up??

Lionheart240 04-25-2004 10:59 AM

Maybe the throttle cable is too loose, or it's just your TPS is dead.

RX7 13B 4 UR AZZ 04-25-2004 11:05 AM

could be your AFM

Lionheart240 04-25-2004 11:07 AM

What is the AFM again, and how can you tell if it's bad? Would a faulty AFM cause the problem I'm having?

johnjasonanthony 04-25-2004 06:12 PM

could you tell me what the tps is or afm is or where can i find it or maybe where i can find an illustration of the parts involved with the intake system,as you can tell i'm not familiar with these parts. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

I belive the TPS (Throttle-Position Sensor) is that big plug that's behind your alternator when you take the intercooler off. If you take it to a shop, they can check it's continuity.

I got mine running again, and I thought the idle was too high cause it sat at 1,500rpm after I had a bitch of a time getting her started. I shouldn't have messed with it though, cause it was perfect BEFORE it died, so why would it have changed...

Then the idle was too low, like 650-750 and it wanted to die alot, and was very unstable. I turned it up later to 950 and it's perfect.

Still having trouble keeping the idle steady when i first start her up, but as soon I just let it warm up and then start moving, I'm in good shape.

Shane.Trammell 04-26-2004 09:24 AM

ok now youve prob confused him a lot bc he doesnt have an ic. 89 vert= no turbo. hey man dont worry about taking your intercooler off bc you dont have one. hes probably got that thing all taken apart now to find the intercooler. there is a factory service manual online at iluvmyrx7.com

Your Air Flow Meter is under the stock airbox. Where you adjust the TPS is shown in this pic.

Shane.Trammell 04-26-2004 09:47 AM

that not the tps. the tps is a little electrical thing right around that thing he showed you in the picture, thats the actual throttle adjustment

Umm it's a recently rebuilt engine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Shane.Trammell 04-26-2004 06:27 PM

technically you cant adjust the tps since all it does is sense the postion of the throttle. you can however adjust the throttle or idle

johnjasonanthony 04-26-2004 10:00 PM

Hey guys i was told by one of my friends that the primary injectors plugs might be interchanged, meaning i plug the wrong plug to the injector.Could this cause it not to idle? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

johnjasonanthony 04-27-2004 09:46 PM

You know what guys this son of a gun was right, interchanged the plugs and the car finally idles. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif it revs itself from 700 -1200 rpm up and down but at least it stays running, now i can start playing with the afm or tps etc.But at least i'm heading in the right direction https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif .

yeah i agree. My car was doing the same thing. i would start it up and it would go up to 2500rpm for 20-30 secs then on its way down to 750-1000rpm it would just continue to zero and start up. It did that to me a couple of times but one day it did it to me 3 times straight so i hold up automatically up there and lower it to 1000 then let it adjust itself. My car was having idling problems and fuel problems. One day it didnt start, like 3 days ago, i take out the plugs , its has mad carbon depostis, so i sand it off, and cooke em over my stove to burn off and extra fuel, throw them back on and clean ou tthe wireset and i start my car, lets just say , no idling problems whatsover, car runs bettter ,a nd non of that werid idling ****. Plus the plus and wires only have like 2k on em, there good.

Good luck
