Hi all,

Well, I picked up a pretty clean early '87 TII with a dead motor and found a cheap low mileage '89 TII motor. Now I have to do the swap. I've got everything apart and am wondering how to make it work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I basically have two complete motors so I can use either the '87 or '89 parts depending on what will work and what will be better. Some people are telling me I should use the '89 injectors with an late '87/88 ecu, others are saying use the '87 injectors and the stock wiring harness. I know that there are some differences in the motors, but I'm not sure exactly what is different, or what I need to make it work. I'm hoping someone here knows and can help me out (the car is sitting in my cousin's garage and his wife is getting uppity about getting it out of there, so I don't want to have to try all the different variables if I can help it). Which Intake should I use? Which ECU? Which vacuum lines? Which Injectors?

I have absolutely zero experience with rotary engines and know next to nothing about the rx-7's (except that they rule). I'm sorry to be such a moron, but thanks in advance for any help!

You should use all of the sensors, injectors, etc. from the 87 motor. From the 89 motor you should use the intake manifolds andturbo. You'll have to figure out something with the oil metering pump. You'll have to make the 87 pump fit on the 89 motor. The other option would be to swap front covers.

Thanks for the info. Will I be able to use the early '87 ECU or do I need one of the late '87/88 Ecu's?

Should I use the '89 fuel rails if possible?

Thanks,

W

Yes, use the 89 fuel rails, but use the 87 injectors. Then it will work fine with your ECU. While the motor is out you may wany to have your injectors cleaned.
