THIS IS A NUTTY IDEA BUT IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE THE TURBO OFF OF A 89 TII AND JUST SWAP THE ENGINE OF A 89 TII AND DROP IT INTO A 88 GTU? MY ENGINE IS BLOW BUT I HAVE A 89 TII BUT I DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE REWIREING OF THE S4 TO S5.. SO THATS MY QUESTION... I AM FAIRLY NEW SO DON'T BE SO ROUGH ON UR RESPONSES

GTu is NA, so it has higher compression rotors, and you'll need a spacer to make the turbo fit.

Not worth it IMHO.

Or are you taslking about swapping the 89 TII motor into the GTU?

Lee, the way I read his post, he is looking to pull the turbo off of the trurbo motor and run it in the car as a N/A...

My feelings on this..

1) can it be done...yes

2) is it practical...Yes

3) will it have the same power...no

4) which is the cheaper option...hmm this is where the fun and debates start.

Using the turbo engine to swap in place of the N/A engine can be done, the cars were built for both and the block dimensions are basically the same, that is what is the easy part.

The problems... You will have to changeover all the accessories from the N/A block to the turbo block to include the intake and exhaust manifolds. The turbo has a lower compression ratio and will be a gas guzzler with no power :(

A better option would be to toss in the stock turbo engine and change out the harness or go standalone.

We need a sticky for swaps and series and model differences.
