Well, after about 2 years of having my car, the time has come.



Ok, so a couple post's ago i said i found an FD, well. It's outa the question. I can't offord it.



After alot of long nights sitting next to my car, and working on my car and doing everything i love with my car (including tapping her to redline a couple times daily) The time has come...



For what you all might say? Well. The type of power i am looking for just will not come from my car. I could do so much. Headers, intake, port. (which i'm scared to do myself) so many variables to make a FAST all motor car. But for what? low 14's? I am not a drag racer, nor a street racer, but i like to have power on tap. And the only way is gunna be a turbo. Either a completely differnt car (Find a Turbo 2) Or find a wrecked turbo 2 with a good engine/tranny/computer/ everything i need and put it in my 86 GXL..



I never thought i would say this but i NEED a turbo . Everything about them. The BOV. THe turbo whine as you revv out to 8,000k Rpms, the massive amounts of tourqe availiable at the push of a pedal, and of course much higher HP than is feesable from an N/A motor.



All this is inspired by this webpage. I see you guys with your 400 HP cars running around town. "man" i think to my self. Why have i waisted (not really waisted, it's all learning experience) but why have i waisted my time all along with an N/A?? Anyway, i'll go for now. Be expecting my to post pics of my new 'project' as soon as i figure out what i am going to do. Later guys.

hurrrmm. Well. The N/A is paid for. and does run (very well) other than the suspension being shot. but that's another story. I guess that's always a thought too. Drive the N/A during the week. and ride out in a 3-400 HP Rotary during the weekend.

I've had the AE @ 8400 when I was "hooking up" at the track.



Go with a TII. Keep the NA if you can too, then you can drive it when the TII breaks down. I would never own a FD. IMO, I think they have too many issues/compromises from the factory. And it takes alot of $$ to fix them. TIIs are quite simple to work on, especially ones with no emissions equipment. Plus parts, OE or performance, are cheaper for a TII.

I'd have to agree with Mr. 88 and tell you to get a Turbo II. One of my buddies has one and his only complaint about it is that the stock wastegate is too small. Other than that he loves the power that he gets off of it. He doesn't drag or street race, so I thought that his situation sounded very similar to yours. And keep your N/A. Two cars on one insurance policy is cheaper per car! So it kinda saves you some money...

negative aspects are highlighted more often than the positives...



and in any car that gains a substantial amount of hp from mods..

yes there will be issues gained .. on any gen



btw..i have more issues on the t2 than ive had on all four of my fds combined..



although i agree on his point of cost..

Are all of your FDs on their original engines? I am not knocking the FD, I just think that for all the heat they generate with the seq. twins, Mazda kind of made the cooling system inefficient.

all factory motors.. ran one on two full seasons of autox and road course

another in one season of drag.. i tend to think its all about maintenance..

and preventative measures.. cooling could have been more efficient certainly

i attribute my issues on the t2 on neglect from the prior owner...
