Does anyone have a 89-91 Turbo II for sale. Interior has to be almost perfect and as stock as possible. Frame has to be straight and preferably in no past accidents. To tell you the truth, I am really desperate for one. If the interior is great and frame is straight and motor still pulls very strong and no tranny grinding, I will buy for under $4000. If you don't have one for sale, please help me look around. I really want to get one before the end of February. Oh yeah, I'm located in California.

Damn, I just checked out Autotrader here in the Seattle area, and there is a 10th Anniversary for sale for under $6000.

i wish my car ONLY cost $6k https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

good luck with finding the car. I just finished my turbo II hunt, so I know what's out there. I'll quickly break it down:

<$1000 = scrap car, useable for parts only

$2000-$4000 = over 110,000 miles, mediocre cdtn

$5000-$7000 = anywhere between 65k and 100k on the clock, I spent most of my time looking at these. But I'll tell you now you won't find one with the perfect interior you want ???

$7000< = These are the cars that have been well taken care of by people who love cars. Unfortunately, these are the same people who KNOW that TurboIIs are hard to find and WAY overprice their car.

If you're only prepared to spend around $4k, I might recommend just getting an 86-88. They're cheaper, you can gain the HP you lose with a few cheap mods, and they weigh less too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I found an 88 TII here with 55k on it going for $4000!!! That's the kind of car I think you'd have better luck with! Good Luck!

hmmm if i deducted the price of MODS+++++ on my car when i bought it from the initial purchase price i would be at about $7k guess that's close enough https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png she came pretty loaded from the get-go. one of the reasons i wanted the FD pretty bad :sigh:

I already tried all the sites (autotrader, autos.recycler, cars, etc.) which is why Im turning to you guys for help. I just really think the 89-91 were designed a lot better after realizing what needed to be fixed from the 87-88 T2's. After reading Mazda Rx7 by John Matras about 15 times over, I found out that 89 T2's weigh only about 40 lbs heavier than 87-88 T2's. 91 T2's are the ones that weighed in at over 3000 lbs. One other question though. How come 87-88 T2's have a tendency to start fires in the cars and 89-91 T2's don't??? I remember reading someone say this. but I don't know why.

Rotaryman88 02-05-2002 07:11 PM

The fact is that all T2 from 87 to 91 have the chance of catching fire. The pre 89 T2s have a different wiring setup I believe and this caused some "hotwires" to catch fire. I wouldn't be too concerned with this though, engine bay fires aren't that common..your more likely to hit a deer then the catch fire. As far as performance between the pre 89s and the post 89s is that the post 89s have twin scroll exhaust manifold w/ a better designed turbo then the pre 89s. The 89+ setup will bolt right on to the 87/88s. Also, the 89+ had higher compression rotors for the turbos then the 87/88s did. I would just go w/ an 87/88 and put the money you save from buying an 89+ into mods. Believe me, the 89+s are VERY rare to find in good condition, and if you do find one at the 4K price...its better off being a parts car. Sorry...

Thanks for the info Rotaryman. I actually found a white 89 T2 for 4500 but it has a little passenger door damage. Would you think this is a somewhat good deal? Everthing else is supposedly in very good condition. I haven't seen the car, but im planning to this weekend. Do you think I would be wasting my time to go check it out or is it worth it? There is no structural damage, just a dent in the door.

All 86-88's have the crappy pulsation damper design on the primary fuel rail. It can leak and cause a fire. The 89-91's have a better design that won't leak.

ask for the contact information of the mechanic who did regular work on the car. If he doesn't have one, or doesn't at least know of one, don't buy the car. If he does, talk to the mechanic and find out what he knows about the car. I did this when I was considering a 91 TII. All the guy claimed was wrong was a broken ECU. And to his credit, I don't think he really knew EVERYthing that was wrong with the car. But his mechanic did. It turned out that the car had REALLY bad wiring(was eating ECUs one after another), had a bad starter, and it was all clogged up from the turbo to the precat. That's the kind of stuff that you just can't catch by visual inspection. Above all else, get a compression check before you buy any car. It will let you know if you are about to buy a rotary time bomb or not.

Infini IV 02-06-2002 06:34 PM

Thanks guys for all your help. I have found a white/blue 89 T2 for 4500. There is a little damage on the passenger door, but the guy is the 2nd owner only and he has every record of all service on the car. I might be going to check it out this weekend, so hope me the best of luck.

how does a 91 weigh more? lol...same car...same turbo...same suspension as 89-90 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png actually...mine doesn't have leather, and the leather clad doors so its prob less than some full optioned series 5 T2's...

as for finding an 89-91 in the shape you want for the price you want GOOD LUCK! like the other dude said...if they are in good shape and the owner KNOWS it is...they aren't gonna charge below 6K

YucA 02-07-2002 11:05 AM

Dent on the door aint ****!!!!! if that truely the only thing that is wrong with it, GO FOR IT!!!! holy ****, u sucK!!! i need a T2. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

Hey Erik, I read the info from the book Mazda Rx7 by John Matras. I heard that is a really good informative book, so I'm just trusting what I read from it.

vosko 02-07-2002 08:01 PM

i *heard* the 89-91's weigh a little more due to different interior, more sound deadening material and more options standard eg lots of T2's don't have powersteering, no power windows or locks. if i get the one i want. i'll weight it for you guys :sigh:

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-07-2002 09:43 PM

Go here, and check it out. It has most ALL the specs. you could need. Including weights of each year/models.

...so it says....hehe

i'm just curious as to how the 91 suddenly weighs more... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

unless in 91 they stuffed any FC parts lying around under the carpet to make room for the FD models, LOL
