Hey all, I just became a member tonight, i have an 88 t2 aniversary, this is my second t2. I had a 87 t2 which i bought for 5 grand and 2 months later it had a blown engine... Let it sit for a few months saved money then sent it to KD rotary in PA for an engine rehaul and upgrades... I am having a problem with my Aniversary rx-7 maybe someone can give me some insight as to what is wrong. i bought this car from the original owner in june of 03 for 6 grand. i just moved to fl and don't have someone to work on my car yet. i have a act street strip clutch that i put in and i have the racing beat exhaust and an air intake the basic bolt ons, when i accelerate my car bucks or feel like it is being pulled back and losses pwer then it kicks back in.. really wierd... I know it isnt my secondary injectors because it happens all over the rpm range and in every gear. I was wondering if it is my motor???----I hope not but i really have no clue what it is. Anyone have and idea what may cause a symptom like this?? If so please respond, I would love to find out why my baby is hick-up-ing when i drive... I want to fix this problem so i can do my injectors and boost controller, by the way what injectors should i use for my 88? Thanks all

Where in Fl and how is the idel on the Bucking Car?

Aniversary 7 02-28-2004 11:19 PM

I am in hollywood fl. the idol on the car is good, when i start it up, she revs at around 2 and then comes down and has a steady idol just a little under one rpm, BUT sometimes when i start it , she stalls on me and i have to turn the 2 or 3 times before she she doesn't stall...ONCE IN A WHILE....

well im in hialeah which aint to farr away. as far as the bucking goes if you are under WOT and it does it then I would say it has something to do with the TPS even if it aint at WOT the tps could cause **** like this to go on. Mine was inproperly adjusted and if I did not have my foot 3/4 way down my car would buck. I have made a checker light if you want we could get together to set the TPS. mabey that will help after the TPS is set we can go from there.

Start with the basics first. They are cheaper and sometimes are the culprit.

I would start with the grounding of the engine. The stock ground SUCKS. Its a measly little wire running to the fire wall at the back of the engine. Get some good heafty wire (2 guage) and ground the engine. Then ground your ECU and your fuse block under the hood. You can use some smaller wire for them.

When is the last time all the general maintenance has been done? Plugs, Wires, Fuel Filter make sure those are all fresh. Those at the first things I change I any RX-7 I have just purchased.

Then start diving into the more technical stuff.

Mods to your car? Do you have your cold start still? or has the Throttle body mod been done? If not then check your Throttle Position Sensor. Look in the F.A.Q. Section I am syure I saw a thread on how to check it.

I honestly would start w/ the simple things first.

I do oil changes every 3,000 miles and i just recently changed the wires, plugs, fuel filter, air intake... I guess the logical thing to do would be to change the grounds to start (especially if they suck...) and see if that is the problem. Is it hard to get to the cpu ground? I heard the manifold has to come off to get to it, is that true?

The CPU 8is under the passanger floor board pull up the carpeting and you'll find 4 10 mm bolts / nuts. Remove them and pull the proctective floor plate. There is the ECU. You should ba able to find a bolt to unscrew from it then run a medium guage wire from it to one of the studs fo rthe cover. Bingo! Its grounded.

I am not saying this is your problem I am mearly pointing out the basic maitenence needs to be done first. It looks like you did most all of it.

IMHO the engine ground is the most important.

If you have tuned it up and replaced the fuel filter it might be time to look at other things.

If you have the FULL racing beat exhaust you WiLL hit fuel cut from reaching max allowed boost by the stock ecu. I think you need a FCD or fuel cut defencer that allows you to boost beoynd stock. But dont forget that now you need to monitor your boost and A/F ratio to make sure you dont ecceed safe limits or boost creep.

i had a fuel cut defencer put in when the exhaust was installed. i don't drive my car hard but i don't drive like an old man. I just don't know what the problem is and this is my daily driver and only car and i don't want to mess it up more if it is something more than a ground. I looked for the cpu ground on the engine but i have no idea where to look and i don't even know what color the wire is. i couldn't even find the ground for the engine that goes to the fire wall. I am lost at this point...

have you checked your fuel pumpo???? could be going bad https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif
