Hey guys, im planning getting a cold air intake for my 87 Turbo and was wonder what is the best one out there, I was wanting a K&N intake but i cant find one for a turbo... And are there any down points from having a cold air intake v.s the stock air box?

Well with taking out the box and freeing up the airflow OFC youre going to get some power. But the downsides you will notice will be low rpm range power loss. Not a lot, at all. But youll lose maybe 1 or 2 hp in the low end.

Make sure you dont get rid of your air flow meter. This may sound like a stupid thing to say, but if you end up having to make an intake yourself you have to have the funny looking metal thing that bolts to the stock air box. You would be surprized at the number of people that throw their AFMs away on all different kinds of cars. They sell adapters for cone filters at auto zone for like $5.

Your car is a S4, which means you'll need the bracket to mount a universal cone filter (you can use a k&n) onto the AFM (large metal square part attached to your stock airbox). This is generally the path most guys take. You can go further by making a new TID (turbo inlet duct). If you make a smoother & larger TID w/ a free-flow k&n filter, you'll net some HP and decent throttle response. Not much else can be done for the intake on a T2... not much else is really needed w/ stock EMS.

If their a company that makes cold air intake for rx7's? Myself hasnt seen any around for sale. Though if you plan on making it yourself of course use cardboard to draw yourself up a template of a box. Trace the areas in which you want to box to fit. Then buy a thin alum sheet and place the cardboard temp. on top and cut around the lines.



I say this because most peoples TID mods are different. I say different due to piping length, shape, etc. So most likely you will have to custom making something if you go that route.

Hey thanks guys, now i am thinking about getting an HKS Super Powerflow intake cuz i hear that they are the best for an 87 turbo, (even though im not so crazy about the beesnest look of them) but in still looking around because i want to get the best of the best for my car, but with whatever i get i will probally need a heatshield right, i don't want my baby breathin hot air from the engine comartment. Ah, im so stuck on this project... i just want everything perfect.. So what intakes do you guys use...and if possible could i see more pics cuz they're helpful. And possibally some pics of bovs on T2s cuz that is my next project.

P.s to wankelTII- I don't understand why i would take out my air flow meter? Could you tell me a little more about this.

you wouldnt take out the air flow meter, i just assume people dont know, better to assume everyone is dumb and tell them something they already know then to have them blow up there cars. I was just pointing out that as annoying as they can be when making an intake you DO need your AFM. Im not calling anyone dumb, just trying to help.



About the BOV, you can add one, but there will be no performance gain, and if anything it will hurt power/acceleration. You want to keep the air recirculating to in front of the turbo, this way the turbo doesnt have to slow down much and you dont loose metered air. Once air passes through the AFM the computer is sending fuel for it, so if you blow some of it out of the system before it reaches the engine, it runs rich because the fuel is still sent. The only real way to fix this is some different form of engine management. You can buy aftermarket valves that are made to recirculate air, but they wont be extremely loud if thats what you were looking for.
