my friend has an 87 TII that won't stay running. to be more specific the car starts up and about 10-15 sec later it dies flat regardless if you give the car gas. i ck the afm by disconnecting it and the car died faster than when it was connected! i really don't have much time to look at this car so i was wondering if anyone ever expierienced a similar problem?

it could be a lot of things.

1. vacuum leaks, the acv, lower intake gasket, turbo inlet duct

2. bac valve, it may not work, or it might not be set right

do you have to take off the turbo to get to the lower intake gasket https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

yes you do, it is actually not hard to take the turbo off

Check for cracks in the lower part of the turbo inlet duct.

Was anything removed or modified or worked on?

when my friend bought the car the previous owner said a shop told him the problem was the acv,but i know they make block off plates for that so it can run without it. i have to take a closer look at this car when i get a chance. also when the car starts and runs for those few seconds it doesn't have that loud sucking like my TII had when i didn't seal the acv correctly.

it sounds more like a vacuum leak to me

the acv can be a vaccum leak, and it does not leak to the outside, it will be an internal leak

ok ck'd out the car yesterday and this is what i found. the ACV is not the problem since i swapped in mine from my 87 TII that was running fine, also i installed my AFM from my TII and once again no change with the problem. i then reset the timing as per the factory service manual and problem still persists. i ck the turbo inlet duct the best i could at the time by running my hands all around it moving it back and forth and found no tears or cracks. this is just weird i start the car everytime if i put the pedal to the floor the car revs up and seems like the fuel gets cut off. if i start it and let it idle it will run a few seconds longer then die the same way. maybe it's time to do a fuel pump test. oh yeah i tried to jump the fuel pump sevice coupler(yellow plug in engine bay passenger side) and the fuel pump didn't prime the fuel system, but the car will start when i turn it over. i noticed the car has a fuel cutoff switch installed maybe this has something to do with the coupler not working?
