Hey Guys,

When I put my engine back together I was just thrilled that it ran. Now it is time to fix some of the nagging things. I have noticed that 5 & 6 ports where no operating so I pulled the actuators and lubed then up, also checking the "linkage" to make sure they rotated OK. All was well for a day, but now the backfiring is back (it was less with the ports working). It only backfires when I run it up to over 5,000 and shift. It does "puff" a little when I shift at lower RPM's. I'm thinking these two things are related, the backfiring and the ports not operating. Are they? I set the timing and the TPS about a month ago, but things don't seem to running quite right. Any suggestions.

so, no body has any ideas. Maybe I should post in rebuild forum, but there are fewer people who read that one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

well, mine backfires when I let off the throttle at high rpm's (it blows smoke too, but that doesn't apply to you). from what I've read, it seems to be the norm. as far as your secondary ports go, I would check that they move freely by hand, to be sure they're roatating ok. Then I would check how they're activated. You could take the actuators off and make sure they're not leaking, and then check the backpressure tube, or your acv, depending on if it's s4 or s5.

Hopefully some else will pipe up.
