Coem to think of it....is this car really that great> i love it to death, but with only 146 Hp to boast, and even less torque...what are my real option. I hear about the powerband a lot, but how much does that really com into play? I used to own a Camaro pushin probably around 350 horse, and my father owns a syclone. Those are fast cars! I buy cars based on potential to beat rice....but....most of them have an average of 150-160 horse....compared to my 146. I dotn want a turbo, and there is no where i can get a cheap porting job...so what to do? I will be keepign the car no matter what...but I find that Im gettin more and more scared to race hondas....rx7 to me means Japanese Muscle...

You don't list any modification to the intake. Have you done anything to free up airflow into the engine?

I love my '86 n/a! It's peppy enough for me, and fun to plan around with on an abondoned road/dirt/parking lot. Trouble-free, easy to work on, and reliable.



I have:

RB header/presilencer

cheap-o cone filter

TB mod

pineapple aux. port inserts

a/c, airpump removed



I'll consider myself "done" when I redo the suspension (which I think is the key that will unlock the potential in this car), finish the exhaust, and do a CAI. Then I just have to wait for a rebuild.

Not to sabotage this thread, but Baldy.... did you find that the TB mod made a difference? I am about to do that.

The throttle response is noticeably quicker, and revs climb faster.



The only downside that I've noticed so far, is that when I first start the car in the morning, it won't idle until it's warmed up. Drives fine, just won't idle on its own for about a solid minute. I just sit with the RPM's at 3k for 60 seconds, or I just drive and keep my toe on the gas when I stop.



I have a spare TB, so I could swap it back to original if I really wanted. But I didn't, if that means anything for you.

They aren't fast cars.. sporty, but not fast. If fast to you defines great, then do a turbo swap. You'd be happier with the speed than you'd get from doing a monster port job which requires rebuild.

ASFar as the intake, Im going to fabricate one with the instructions in the FAQ, just havent had the time, and am waitng on a Prelude cold air pipe....as far as these cars being sporty not fast...I can definatley see that thats the case...so do you think I should go for more of a precision drivign route? Ive always liked drifting and peope, say that these are great cars for it.... What are some suspension mods I should consider before i take it out? As far as drifting tho, the most important mod, i hear, is practice...ha ha...so....what do you guys think...

oh yeah,...unliem most of you, this is my only car at the moment, since im only 18 yrs old, and I sold my other long ago...So...i dunno if that matters any, but this car is a daily driver....

That's mostly what I did over the past couple years... suspension and brake work. With some suspension mods, good tires, and of course practice, you'll really appreciate what even the NA's can do through turns. I suggest you try autocrossing. Its a lot of fun, a good way to practice in a safe environment, and teaches you how to be a better driver in general I think. The GXL and GTUs models are the best NA's for this type of racing. Is yours the base or GXL model?



Don't worry about the daily driver thing.. as long as you've done all the maintenance stuff first and the car is running solid, it will serve you well.

yeah the NA's arent fast stock.



go turbo if you want to go fast without spending quite a bit of money, or you could just lose alot of weight in your car and it will have a similar effect, while improving braking and handling simultaneously.
