I guess for now I can dream of driving it, but look at it; it's just begging to be pushed hard through some curvy ass old back roads... hmmmm..... Top end.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

especially if you pull the plugs out and keep the pedal to the floor to keep the engine lubricated while doing it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I always pull the EGI or pump fuse.Pull the plugs FLOOR it and crank it till gas stops pouring out of the holes. Then put in a fresh set of plugs, put in the fuse and fire it up and enjoy. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png 79Rx7 Nice setup.I can't wait to here wha you have to say about it when its running.Let us know how it goes compared to when it was carbed and how much better it runs now.I would like to hear that.Nice install.Keep trying to get it running. Then ZEX it. :smirk:

I was talking to this one guy I know(Owns a FC and SA) and he was saying that the walbro pump will cause any NA to run rich.Do you have a pressure regulator on it?

'79rx7 02-02-2003 12:54 PM

Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you I've got it running and I've done nothing but race and rod the piss out of it ever since. It's fast now, probably over a full second quicker than the carb setup. I killed a modded 90 5.0 mustang, by about 12 car lengths and put about half a car length on a new lt1 vette. I'm getting ready to go pick up my zex kit, and get that in, but it will probably be monday before i can get the bottle filled.

We topped it out on the highway my speedometer only goes to 130, but it goes way past that to the 'm' in mph; and it gets there quick. I need more gears!!!

What would you guys think of me switching out my GSL-SE 4.10 rear end for a 3.90? It has the power now, I think it might make it quicker...

Also, I don't think it's running rich with the walbro pump, the stock regulator should keep it in check.

A little rich + zex = https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

All we had to do to start it was pull start it to about 30mph and it fired right up, smoked like crazy for about 30 minutes, but ran good considering, it didn't take much tweaking at all to get it to run like it does now.

It was well worth it in my opinion, but my carb sucked!

The only thing is it doesn't start like a fuel injected car you have to hold it floored, for it to fire right up.

Also as far as premix goes I have no ill effects, it doesn't smoke, before with the carb it would smoke at idle a bit and alot when you were racing and shifted, now it doesn't hardly smoke at all.

I think suprisingly for doing everything myself it turned out very well, I'm throughly impressed with it, and even managed to scare a couple of people, with how hard it pulls, and how easy it goes sideways through the twisties :smirk:

Cool glad to hear it.So you can't just crank it to start it?Theres something wierd there.

j9fd3s 02-02-2003 06:41 PM

well i'm glad it runs, thats pretty cool :bigthumg: it should start by just turning the key, but hey its a big project. they always need some little things once you get it running

'79rx7 02-03-2003 01:18 AM

It does start when you turn the key, it just seems to start easier if you hold it floored, any ideas???

Racer X 02-03-2003 01:20 AM

Maybe not enough fuel when you go to crank it at first? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Do you think that would matter on start-up?

Yes, I did like I said I'm not real familar with 2nd gens, but i found where it went. the only thing I'm lacking is the atp sensor, the air pressure one. I'll get that tomorrow or tuesday.

I just can't decide on the zex, oh well can't hurt to just try it for a week or so, I think it will be fun, coming down into 3rd gen territory! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Believe me once you hook it up you won't disconnect it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png The extra power is just to nice to have at the flick of a switch. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

that might do it, im not real sure what the ecu does if you dont have that. its either that or a vacuum leak

Would anyone know since i used the stock wires for the new pump, does it turn the pump off when you hit the starter?

j9fd3s 02-06-2003 09:43 PM

on a 79 the pump is straight to the key. on the 86 its hooked thru the afm
