I've posted something about this before, but I just can't stop thinking about why. Basically, my car has great power until 6k, then it just sucks. Sometimes if it isn't quite warm it will seem to hit a wall at 6k, like it will actually throw your head forward because of the sudden lack of acceleration. It doesn't slow down, but it just stops accelerating. My friend with an 87 n/a pulls hard to redline, mine actually pulls harder in the low end, but he would beat me because of my crappy high end. I know the actuators are working, and if I rev it in the driveway the VDI comes on, so what's wrong? The sound of the engine even seems to get weak up there, it's really loud in the pre-6000's, but then it gets all quiet. If I do a 0-60 run, it just takes forever to get through the gears. First shoots by until 6k, then it sucks; shift to second, and wait. It takes 12 seconds to hit 60, and probably 9 of those are spent waiting in second.
Unless you guys have ideas I'm just gonna have to save up $80 for a check up with a rotary specialist, but I'd rather do it myself. Thanks for reading all of that, just give me ideas please. |
fuel filter? my gsl-se has trouble in the top of 3rd cause it just runs out of gas
mike |
has new fuel filter, air filter, and plugs.
|
Are you sure theres no vaccum or intake leaks?Sounds like you might have a intake leak.Or a leaky injector causing it not too get enough fuel up high in the power range
|
i was gonna say vdi but you already see that work. we played with my friends car, who was complaining about the same thing. and the vdi was stuck stut

try using some injector cleaner...also, run the codes and see if anything comes up...it takes 30 seconds to check them. a tutorial at www.1300cc.com
also, i sort of had a similar problem like yours although mine would hit a wall at 7500. it would almost seem like my n/a would lean out or get too rich at that point. did it since the day i got it with a fresh rebuild.............until..........one day i got bumped in the rear by a mustang while i was sitting at a light...no damage at all, but it kind of shook the car. so after i got his insurance info i took off...and was pissed...so i floored it and redlined it. and whadda ya know?..........it hit 8500rpm and kept pulling!!!!!!!!!!! i was like HOLY ****! this it what its SUPPOSED to be like! it was so noticeably faster than it ever had been... this lasted for about 2 months and then it slowly reverted back to its 7500 wall...and it still does this now. i dunno if the hit jarred something on the fuel pump...or knocked the filter on the fuel pump around...still can't figured it out...but i want it to go back to what it was!!!!!!!!!!!! haha |
maybe he bumped a vacuum hose back on, or the car was just pissed and made itself fast enough to kill that mustang.
it'll be another one of those power restorers like atf, you could call it the smt; stupid mustang trick. |
i have the same problem after i put my bigger injectors on,
if my car is not warm it will like stay an not go at high rpms for some reason...?? before it would go fast hot or cold, now i have to wait till it warms up i dunno whyyy...... |
Don't know what to tell you, this is uncommon, I have never heard of it before. Doesn't sound like a vacuum leak. Could be a bad wiring harness, bad grounds, tps. Check the ecu for codes too. Check the fuel pressure too. Check the timing too.
|
how about exhaust? might be getting restricted once the gasses really get flowing... just a thought.
|
naw i doubt its exhaust at all
but i checked my codes an it comes up 30 and 33 solenoid valve.... whats up witht hat? u think it could be that???? |

LIke someone said, when was the last time you change the spark plugs. MIne would give out in about 12k miles or 6 months.

that is the VDI solenoid valve closing up...30 and 33...that is why you are lacking high rpm power...
a 12 year old fuel pump could be it too! |
Whats the VDI solenoid valve? Were is this located and how do I fix it????
do i need a new one? |

a 12 year old fuel pump could be it too! 30 Solenoid valve - split air bypass 33 Solenoid valve - port air bypass http://home.rmci.net/panther/89_91ecu.htm these are not related to the vdi, it's emissions related, may be related to your power issues but maybe not, check out the service manual on checking these solenoids. |
**** you *******...sorry about the mistakes i dont apprecitate the personal attacks that you launch upon me for no ******* reason...
