that, or I am feeling the vdi kick in at 5500 rpm. not sure what it should feel like, maybe I will go screw with them tomorrow, since I don't have class.

and where is this stuff located? I have never messed with it before.

what year is your car? only s5 have vdi. These things are located on the intake plenum. Do u have a haynes manual? if not you should get one, they are like $10 and very worth it.

I have a question relating to this: when changing my oil, I was trying to find where the six-port actuator was located, just so I know. I thought I found it, and had my wife rev the engine real high to see if something moved. it did, so I want verification: is it on the passenger side of the engine, closer to the firewall, with the cylinder pointing to the right side of the vehicle, with an arm that pushes out to spin the cylinder?

ChainSawOnSteroids 12-10-2002 08:57 AM

yes baldy you have discovered the 6 ports, lol j/p that would be them above the exhaust manifold

the vdi is on the upper left of the motor, its a round thing with a vacuum line going into it

ok, having located the 6 ports, I took the actuators off, and tried to move them by hand, using a screwdriver as a lever, I was barely able to move them at all, though, I am not sure which direction they are supposed to be going, I assume clockwise, since that is the direction I was able to nudge them, now, how do I clean them so they will move? and what should they look like when fully open?

j9fd3s 12-10-2002 04:31 PM

there are stoppers so they can only rotate one direction. if you take the actuators off you should be able to move them with your fingers. if not they are dirty, the only way to clean them is to take the manifolds off and clean it all out with solvent. if you are lucky you will move them and it ill free up enough that a few high rpm runs will clean them out

No luck, they were so locked that I actually sheared one of the levers off, so I didn't mess with the other one, the actual actuator (thing with vaccuum hose on it) is moving now, after a WD40 bath, but it looks like I have j00red my 6 ports from working for quite a while. if ever.

CrazyAssRX7 12-10-2002 06:24 PM

now you are going to have to open the whole intake manifold and clean it from the inside, that should be done from a tech though, you will also have to buy the the 2 intak gaskets when doing this also. And i dont think this is too cheap also but you will feel a difference when finished
