I was wodering what the differences between the 6 and 4 puck on ACT clutches are.



I like my clutches stiff but not overbearing, especially since it is an N/A.



My new FC is an 87 N/A with many mods.

It is my understanding that a 4 is going to be a lot more harsh and than the 6 which is a lot more harsh than a stock disk. You can get a lot of power into a stock disk with a HD pressure plate though and you'll only get about 30% more pedal stiffness.

If you're n/a you should be able to just do a s/s man. I can't see you putting down enough power to warrant a 4or 6 puck clutch.

So what would you recommend?

In virtually any application I'd say go with a street disk. I think something to factor in is that if you ever went for a turbo swap that the NA tranny is going to fall apart and you'd want to upgrade to a turbo tranny most likely. That being said, If you went with somone like ACT, I'd suggest a street disk and a HD pressure plate. On the NA 225mm clutch you can handle 268 ft*lb of torque which is probably well over anything you're going to have to worry about. The XT plates can handle up to 350 ft*lbs. I'd suggest looking at some reviews on them and see what people have to say about their kits. I know pineapple racing gets some nice full disks that hold up better to abuse too. The biggest thing to consider is that six pucks are a little bit cheaper and have a lot more grab. This is a double edged sword though. The other thing to worry about is the higher the force of the pressure plate, the more force it's going to take from your foot. I think the HD plates are on the order fo 30% more force and the XTs are something like 70%. It just becomes a pain in stop and go traffic. -Zach-

Yes I was wondering about resurfacing the disc. That is a good idea.



Would this clutch be good? ACT Clutch



I also have a question about the shifter. It is very loose and moves about freely when in neutral. Let’s say I were to get a short throw type shifter, would it come with the necessary accessories to remove the free play? If so what shifter would be the best buy?

I've heard mixed things about centerforce and I've heard mixed things about ACT for that matter. I've heard a bit of good things about ACTs from friends and my brother used one and then went to a centerforce and I think had a few complaints. I really don't have any experience with them myself though. I'm fairly happy with ACT at the moment.
