So it's raining.. all day... and raining some more. motor has just broken in finally and i wanted to see what it could do. I've never acctually hit the rev limit. even on my old motor. they say it's 8400... or is it 8200. well. whatever it may be, i hope i didnt hurt anything... cause i hit it. In first gear.

45 Mph + 1st gear. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png Note to self. Lets not try that again.. or i'm sure i'll be rebuilding that motor real quick like. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

CrazyAssRX7 03-23-2003 11:43 PM

whats wrong with taking ur car that high???

man i go to 9k all the time an hittin about 50 in first

ahouldnt be a giggie unless ur engine is messed up

relisys190 03-23-2003 11:46 PM

you have a couple more things done to your engine. granted i have 3rd gen seals and springs.. but pheww. i dont think they are signifigantly stronger or anything. Is it bad taking a rotary that high?

I usually just hit the buzzer and shift. Buzzer in 86 is ... 6400 Rpms. engine computer cuts at 8500

rx7machine 03-23-2003 11:47 PM

Whenever I'm past 7K in the FC there's this loud ass buzzing.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Seppuku 03-24-2003 12:11 AM

Ive never heard a buzzer at 7k in my vert.

rx7machine 03-24-2003 12:16 AM

Beats me then.. not right at 7K but past it, maybe 8K.. I can't really remeber.. but I know I heard a buzzing/beaping noise before..

rotary>piston 03-24-2003 12:51 AM

just shift at redline, it's there for a reason. There is a long list of things you need to rev higher. Anyway, unless you have a big port job, the car will be slower if you ride it out that far.

On the other hand, if you LIKE rebuilding your engine every few months, then go for it.

I agree with that. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Have fun with it.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif I don't think anybody wants to do that every few months.

USNALAX1 03-24-2003 08:09 AM

guys the beauty of the rotary is it can't get hurt for redlining!!!!

87RX7NA 03-24-2003 08:20 AM

Is it supposed to be like that? My 87 buzzer goes off at 7000 and it actually cuts out around 7500 (+ or - 100) Anyways, seems like that's a pretty big gap between the buzzer and limiter. Hmmm, maybe mine's wrong?

relisys190 03-24-2003 08:45 AM

Yup Yup... My Buzzer (Located behind the guage cluster area) does buzz... at 6500-6700

than i usually shift very shortly after that. Like Rotary>Piston said earlier... theres no reason to rev higher than that. that's where the power band cuts out.

on a side note... any one know how much more 'goose' i'll get from a nice set of racing beat header?

vosko 03-24-2003 10:16 AM

well my old 89 GTU i used to rev to 8200-8400rpm... right befoer it would cut fuel. it was fine. just maintain the car and it will be fine

oh yeah its been a while but you can hit 60mph redlining second. there is no way you can hit 45+ mph unless you rev it to 10k or you have bigger tires in the back and your speedo is off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I beg to differ

Eccentric shaft flex, apex seal chatter, stationary gear problems, oil starvation. to name a few

Basically, going into redline isn't good. The only time I'd ever do it is burying the needle at the end of the quarter to prevent a last minute shift.

beat me to it.......you start to run out of oil pressure because of the bypass too. That can be fixed easily though

HeffSpooled 03-25-2003 11:06 PM

Those are problems you are more likely to have with sustained high Rs. Short durations of redline should be no problem.

j9fd3s 03-26-2003 12:17 AM

i did that this morning, the tach in the 83 is slow to wake up so i shifted at 4k on the tach, which was about 45mph, oops

turborotor 03-26-2003 01:56 AM

I gotta show you guys what overeving does to an engine. My last engine broke the mail bearing and smacked it self to the rotor housing. It sounded terrible.

My old s4 engine died a slow death cuase i used to take to 9k alot and leave it there when i was racing. I lowered my cut of to 7500 cause rotaries will keep revving.

relisys190 03-26-2003 12:03 PM

since were on the subject of Redline.. and so fourth. From what i understand, isnt it good for a Rotary to tach the engine up every once in a while?? Even being in stock form (internally)

I mean, sure, dont hold the damn thing at 7 or 8 grand for 10 min, but everyonce in a while (once or twice a day) wont hurt to tach it up.. right? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

vosko 03-26-2003 12:17 PM

nope its fine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

i did about 66mph in my gxl at about 8300 rpms in second

yup https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

UniqueTII 03-26-2003 12:55 PM

I can't recall ever driving mine without hearing the buzzer at least once.

mazdaspeed7 03-26-2003 09:37 PM

Where are you guys getting these short gears from?!?! My speedo is dead on, and I hit about 72 mph at 8400 rpm in 2nd.

ROTARYROCKET7 03-26-2003 09:48 PM

at what speed should u shift out of first like 25mph. If you can give me the speeds for each relative gear. LOl

depends on what and how you want your car to behave...

are you still planning on going manual tranny?

Suds 03-26-2003 10:59 PM

I hit 100mph at like 7000-7500 in 3rd. And i have 85psi oil pressure, will tach it to 9k in a quarter mile to hit like 110.

mid april is like 2 weeks from now. wow. doing it yourself or are u having a shop do it? what's the cost gonna be like? have you thought about selling yours and just buying a manual FC? good luck because this is a big move.

I dont know about you guys but i shift right after redline at about 7500 rpms. When im at the track I ride out third gear in the NA so i dont have to shift right before the 1/4 is up.

1st 35 mph

2nd 65 mph

3rd 82ish mph

4th 115 mph

5th highest ive gon in fifth in my NA was 124 mph. Thats where it stopped pullin

CrazyAssRX7 03-27-2003 01:12 PM

damn whats up here

i dont think my mods are that big of a thing..... my second hits 85 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

'i havent had my gears changed

relisys190 03-27-2003 05:34 PM

Its your rim and tire size. They are more than likely throwing your guages off

So, what looks like 85 (HOLY ****)

is prolly more like 63-68 mph

Just my opinion
