I am running the stuff mentioned in the title and then some, and my voltage normally stays at about 13.5 with all the **** on and lights too, the problem is for my Crystal Competition amp to deliver 800 full watts it has to get 14.4 volts....which is damn near impossible without buying a 1/2 farad cap (and I'm not sure how they work, but i dunno if that's gonna help), is there a heavy duty alternator made for 7's? I'm gonna need one some day, for sure, cuz in the future i plan to DB+ Drag...any help would be appreciated...

"Damn i thought Knight Rider just pulled up or some ****, how many ******* lights you need on that **********er?...." my friend Wayne when i pulled up....o...the other amp is an RF 40ix running mids..they are wired to a distribution block and have a decent ground...

j9fd3s 12-14-2002 03:19 AM

the biggest one is the fd one 100?amps instead of 65?

mike

CrashFactory 12-14-2002 04:17 AM

and it should bolt right up right? what am i looking at price wise? (i am NOT the richest person in the world :P) when i do have money i spend it on stupid cheesy garden gnomes....what time is it? a:63? o yeah baby!

"I AM A GIANT BURRITO!!! FEAR MY BEEFY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Scott 89t2 12-14-2002 04:22 AM

it doesn't bolt up. it takes a bit of custom work.

I would have pics and info. but it seems USPS lost my FD alternator that I should have goten 3 weeks ago....

ChainSawOnSteroids 12-14-2002 08:53 AM

dude i think what you mean by cobra eyes, are the windshield washer LEDs,

i had those in teal green, ah i traded them for an APEXi muffler, **** that

Apex13B 12-14-2002 12:26 PM

cobra eyes...you ricer :rice:

CrashFactory 12-14-2002 02:23 PM

now WTF is up with that ricer BS? i see it all over every message.....the rx-7 is a japanese car correct? If your gonna insult me at least tell me how/and when i am being insulted :bigok:

Rob x-7 12-15-2002 07:56 PM

You talking about a Pyramid amp? LOL, I would SERIOUSLY doubt 800watts from a $120 amplifier.

Send out your alternator to a place the rebuilds them and tell them to upgrade it for you

You can also put a GM Powermaster 140amp in there as well

If you want to have a 800 watt amp in there you will need real heavy gauge wiring going to the thing, a 60-100amp fuse or circuit breaker, and some speakers that handle 800 watts, in other words, you need about $100 in wiring and fuse/circuit breakers and connectors alone for your $120 amplifier, plus the alternator upgrade.

Another thing to consider is if the amp is advertised at 800watts thats usually at 1-2ohms, I dont know what kind of speakers your using or how you are wiring them but no speakers are 1-2ohms, only when you run them in series or parallel does it bring the ohms down. I would say that even if a piece of poo amp like one you bought CAN go down to 2 ohms, it will probably last all of a minute or so before it started to clip and overheated, and I know it doesnt have a cooling fan built in.

Rice doesnt necessarily mean Asian made car. It was coined in the past few years to describe extreme distaste in modifying a car that was and still is most common in Imports https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

that has always been my defintion, tasteless mods.

CrashFactory 12-15-2002 09:15 PM

ok, got 2 gauge wiring with 2 100 amp fuses one after battery one before amp, 4 gauge ground wire, heheh my memphis 15's are rated at 1000 a piece....it's running 2 ohms, they are in parelell, just not getting enuff juice to get the full power out of the amp.......

Leetheslacker 12-15-2002 09:31 PM

washersquirter leds? :rice:

That kinda stuff should never touch or be within a 2 foot radius of any 7.

Fastrotaries 12-16-2002 01:25 AM

There's a guy here in Daytona Beach that does automotive electrical stuff, and he rebuilt and upgraded my alt to 125 amps for $140. I now have to redo some grounds since they're worn and not grounding as well as they can.

how do you have a 2 foot radius around a car? 2 feet from the front and rear end, or 2 feet from the center? one would give you greater disctance on the sides, and a car with washer lights in the next lane might enter that radius, whereas the other would put the circumference right through the front and rear of the car. just an ****-retentive thought. (an ellipse might be a better choice)

I would say you are getting all you can from that Pyramid amp and those Memphis speakers, they arent high end car audio items, if people could buy a 800watt amp for $120 why would they spend $1000+ on one?

75 Repu 12-16-2002 11:44 AM

Pyramid is a bargain Brand... Try getting something better You will need a quality amp to supply good power to your subs, but you will still need to upgrade the electrical system.. I would recommend a Zapco amp but they are pretty expensive...

Hey Rob x-7 will the GM Powermaster 140amp bolt right up to the 13b.. Since I rewired my Repu the harness I am using from painless wiring is GM Style anyways..and I plan on having a system, power windows and a few more electronic gizmos..

The wiring is easy, ask 13bAce, I know he bought one and put it in over the summer then took it out when he took his vert apart, he can tell you the install procedure, I think it was pretty easy though if I remember correctly. Might just have to spin the position of the mounting holes ( clock it )

He even got one in chrome

75 Repu 12-16-2002 11:51 AM

How much does a brand new one cost.. I don't even have one for my engine yet so Maybe I can get myself one as a Christmas present..or New years present or...

75 Repu 12-16-2002 12:00 PM

Oh yeah and where can I order it from..

Rob x-7 12-16-2002 12:28 PM

Summit Racing has them, any local shop would have them too but Summit is probably cheaper, any rebuilders in your area?

Rob x-7 12-16-2002 12:30 PM

Somewhere in the $150-$175 range I believe, they have a few different ones.

75 Repu 12-16-2002 12:49 PM

Well There is a very Reputable rebuilder in East L.A.. My brother has had work done there before and had only good things to say about them.. But if I can get the GM one and just reclock it I should be alright.. I think it has more than enough to keep my power needs met..

Scott 89t2 12-17-2002 03:46 AM

huh GM one boilting into the stock mounts??? I don't think so. I would have seen that done before. the only thing I'm aware of is the FD that fits in. but you need a new bolt and nut.

Its been done, technically the alternator in a Mazda is a Mitsuibishi so you cant go by manufacturer.

Its a bolt on thing, someone on the board did it over the summer actually.

Scott 89t2 12-17-2002 04:33 PM

I want some more info and pics if possible! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I really need a new one. I bought a used FD one last month but it never showed up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif I think it got lost in the mail.

Info is it had to be clocked, which is just about any alternator you buy needs to be clocked to your car. PM 13bAce, he hasnt been on alot, but he did it and didnt have any problems, I dont think he bothered to take pics, it was only a alternator install, I did see it in the car and it looked....well it looked like a alternator.

Scott 89t2 12-17-2002 04:38 PM

what does clocking it mean?

Rob x-7 12-17-2002 04:45 PM

It means you just unbolt the front of the alternator from the back, seperate and spin it until the mounting bolts and plug line up for your application.

j9fd3s 12-17-2002 04:51 PM

oh, hmm i didnt know you could do that to an alternator

mike

A man of your caliber didnt know that?

See, you learned something today!

loudazzrx7 12-17-2002 10:02 PM

Hold up---I dont care what alternator you get--its not going to give you 14.4 volts for a major system.Im running 2400 watts and a real amp that puts out 800 watts will kill your juice.# 1 you need the right wiring--hot and ground should be the same.# 2 You have to get a cap.when your subs hit low--it drains the **** out of your electrical system.Your cap stores the juice to keeps it at 14.4(actually your lucky to keep it at 14 period)And also you need a great battery Otima,or stinger. When it hits it drains the battery first then your alternator trys to play catch up and charge it back .If you got a nice cap It takes alot of the strain off.If you go up to alot of wattage--for db drags we are talking multiple batteries ,caps and even alternators.--

Scott 89t2 12-18-2002 10:10 PM

yayyyyyy just got my FD alternator today... it was surposed to be here 3 weeks ago so I had already considered it lost in the mail LOL... so no GM one for me now https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

1Revvin7 12-18-2002 10:14 PM
