Hey everyone, I have some lsd questions for you. I have 1988, rx7 na, it has an open ended diff on it. I want to put a 2way lsd on it, what parts will I need, such as a new diff casing or back diff casing? Also part recommendations, who has good parts vs. cost an hidden cost that I may not see in doing this project.

n/a is a pain, you need a miata diff for it.............winds up being very expensive. i know as a friend of mine did it

Not sure what you mean by "2 way LSD" but the best thing to do is get a LSD from a S4 GXL and swap the rear end (case and all) for yours.

get the torsen and that should be all you need. Read your workshop manuel if you have one and it'll tell how to set the backlash.

if you want another front yoke to practice on, i have one without the LSD in.

Remove rear diff cover...

Remove ring gear + open diff...

Replace open diff with "new" LSD...

Adjust ring gear to "spec"...

It's highly recommended to replace the two side bearings when doing this.

So it's basically two bearings and maybe a diff cover gasket?

Not sure what you are talking about Ted. All the FC diffs I have worked on don't have a REAR cover. The front nose comes off to get at the internals. You have to drop the whole rear end to be able to get at the internals. It is be far easier to swap in a working diff (you need to buy 1 for the parts anyway) than to try setting on old 1 up with new parts. New parts will cost 3X more than a whole diff anyway.

what are you guys paying for the replacement bearings and where are they coming from? When we tried to get them i was told that mazda had discontinued the part# and they only have whole diffs available.

So for replacing the whole diff, from eather another rx7, or a miata, how much am I looking at, and my wheels are a 4 lug, so will I need to replace the whole backend?
