has any one else noticed that after the car has gone through it's warm up cycle that once you put it in gear and go on the gas, that the engine will engauge untill about 2000 rpms then cut off... fall to 1500 rpms kick in to 2000 cut off ... and so on... I'm forced to go through all my gears, shifting at 2000. 5th gear is at like 25 mph.... this doesn't happen all the time, just in the mornings when she feels like it. I'm wondering if it could just be a bad fuel filter. any advice, comments?

pull the codes out of it, somethings not right

rx7man629 07-09-2005 10:44 AM

tps, hook an ohm meter up to it and move the tps plunger in and out and make sure the ohms sweep smoothy up and down. When does the car stop doing it?

elitt89na 07-09-2005 11:06 AM

It seems most of the time it stops either with in a few minutes or I just limp it to where I'm going usually across the street.

CrassFC3S 07-09-2005 12:19 PM

somethings not right dude, obviously your car is not suposed to do that, i dont think its a tps issue, is it hot or cold? is there any repeating factors when this happens???

elitt89na 07-09-2005 01:01 PM

It has happened in the morning when I go to school.... and It has happend after driving for an hour on the highway and stopping off for a burger starting the car again and "try" to get back on the road.

any quick ways to grab the codes to an 89na?

rx7man629 07-09-2005 01:33 PM

um no, S5's are self-diagnostic. http://www.1300cc.com

elitt89na 07-09-2005 03:15 PM

is it like the newer jeeps where you turn the key on off on off on... wait a couple of seconds and the engine light starts flashing the code?

buy the way the 1300cc.com dosn't allow me to go to the s5 section.

elitt89na 07-09-2005 04:23 PM

Ok well I figured out how to do the on board diognostic.... and there were no codes... nothing flashed... so I guess my next question would be may be my tps is dirty... in that little crevice around the main sensor... so what would clean that out? compressed air, carb cleaner, water? again any help?

CrassFC3S 07-09-2005 07:15 PM

yeah its a s5 shut up

elitt89na 07-09-2005 10:05 PM

I figure it's my tps is got dirt or something around it.... I'm just going to blow it out with air and then put some silicon spray on it to loosen it up.

rx7man629 07-10-2005 03:28 PM

yup, shoot some 2+2 in it and work the plunger in and out, spray the **** out with compressed air and see how she runs, I checked my codes yesterday and 18 came up which is the narrow band tps, turns out i had water in it, i blew it out with compressed air and no more codes. So watch moisture around the tps's.

elitt89na 07-10-2005 07:03 PM

Well I blew it out with air, it hasn't happend yet but I'm still going to hit it with some kind of lube. Thanks guys... by the way any one have a driver door external handle they would be willing to part with? this getting in the passanger side stuff has got to go!

sureshot 07-11-2005 08:15 AM

The ECU is getting a closed throttle value from the TPS.

Get some CRC brand "QD Contact Cleaner" from the electrical Dept at Home Depot, or some equivalant.

Spray it in between the TPS plunger & sleeve, work the plunger, blow it out, repeat.

It that dosen't fix it, it's probably just worn out.

That contact cleaner is also good for all switches and position sensors.
