Well, I've had my '87 TII for almost 2 years now. The only mods done so far have been a 3" downpipe, 2 1/2" catback exhaust w/ 'high flow' cat, air pump and whatnot blocked off, and the dual alternator pulley thing. 1st gear has always been a bitch though. I either have to really rev it up before I let go of the clutch or immediately shift into 2nd to not get a ridiculous lag right after I pump the gas to about 2-3500 rpm's. I've heard about the infamous 3800 rpm thing, is this it? If so, what can I do to get a little more jump off the starting line (red light https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR ) ? It's really not a big issue, mostly just annoying. Any help or info would be appreciated dudes.

I find it's pretty easy to bog my car if I let the clutch out too fast at too low an rpm. At the dragstrip, I find that a high rpm and smooth clutch release yield the best launches.

Does your car pull smoothly through the 3800 range in other gears? If so, then it's not the 3800 rpm thing.

something sounds funny. stock t2's are slow in 1st gear, we had an uphill stop sign going to the house and i got so sick of the t2 being laggy there (no other cars were bad, fd's, 1st gens etc), i put a 3 rotor in it.

Yeah....wish I had the $$$ to put a 3-rotor in it. That would be "sweet like tits", lol. I guess I'll just have to get those rpm's up...Nothing ever happens around 3800, so it must not be that. Thanks for the input homeys.

larger turbo fixed it too. 1st gear is nothing but wheelspin

Oh snap

By now you should know that first gear on these cars is only good for a rolling start, and nothing more. In traffic, I don't shift out of first until around 4 grand; That way it doesn't completely dump me out of the power band. Not sure about the turbos, but I bet if the N/A 1st gear ratio sucks then the turbo is worse.
