Okay, just bought my first rotary, a 1990 turbocharged RX-7, and now the fun part. I had $6000 to spend, but paid $4000 for the car. Now the fun part, adding some more power. It's a blast to drive, excellent running condition, just theres scrapes here and there. It's red.

I need some help though. I've talked about this a little while back, about adding some power through an exhaust (racing beat or Apex) and a cold air intake. The only question I have is, how do I beat the fuel cut properly? And how much PSI will these two upgrades add? I'm worried about running rich, and looking at the DIY or retail FCD, I'll be running rich at about 12 psi. Any helps in succesfully beating this and keeping reliable horse power? Oh, and a boost controller will be added, just for fun.

the stock ecu has fuel up to about 10-11 psi, so it would be wise to keep it around there, without a fuel pump or something. the intake and exhaust should get you to about 9-10psi should be just about right

I wouldn't worry about running rich at 12psi..you wont on stock ecu. Your stock fuel cut is 8.6psi if I remember correctly. The best way of avoiding fuel cut is buying a FCD...racing beat is a good place to get one. If you get full exhaust, such as downpipe hi-flo cat and catback you'll bump up 2psi, and the free flowing intake should get another psi....this will result in you bumping up to 9 to 10psi as jdfd3s said. Your stock topmount IC is really only good for 10psi as well, so you may want to upgrade that if you have the $$. Anything over 10psi and your gonna want a bigger fuel pump...walbro is the best deal around...um, thats really it for now. Get intake, exhaust, FCD, and a fuel pump...run 10psi and be happy. 12psi will wear your stock turbo out quickly too....

Okay, thank you. Just to clarify, I can use the cat back, and cool air intake with no problems, and everything will still run fine after I get the fuel cut defencer, right? It's all I really want, now the problem is about sound. Between the RB and Apex exhausts, I'm curious about sound. I heard the Apex, at high RPM's, sounds like a sportbike or F1 racecar, what does the RB sound like, if you can relate it to something.

With a catback and intake, you may not even need the FCD, but would be a good idea unless you like the feeling of hitting a brick wall,lol...





As for sounds, we did a motor swap for a friend of mine who had a '91 T2 w/ the APEXi N1 dual..it sounds awesome at lower RPMs, but by the end of the 6 hour drive back home for him he bought ear plugs..it was too noisy..not really all that loud, but like a constant hum that I guess he couldnt take,lol...



The RB sounds very good. It's probably the quietest of the aftermarket performance catbacks...i've only heard one on a T2 before...but it makes the NAs sound very deep even at higher RPMs, I can't really relate it to anything right now..hopefully somebody else can,lol...
