Hi i am new to posting so bear with me. I have a 1987 n/a rx-7 i bought off of a kid a couple years ago has always been a good running car and still runs strong but recently it has been acting up. I was driving home from work about 10 miles was on the freeway and the car just felt like it died pulled over to the side of the freeway relized it was still idling but as soon as i touched the throttle it bogged and died so restated the car and tried to slowly put throttle into it and it reved up to about 2500 or so. If i put it to the ground it would just sit there and surge. I sat there for a bit with the car running relized it was idling a little rough but not to bad but then it just seemed to clear up tried to rev it up and it ran fine drove it home about two miles and parked it. So then i left it there didnt want to get stuck anywhere. Drove it around the block a couple times figured maybe it did it cause it was low on gas or something so i filled the tank and drove to work with no hitches but then on the way home it did the same thing. I am new to rotary engines and i am confused lol. I work at a perfomance machine shop so I get more then just the basics but like I said a little confused here if u can give me any help would be greatly appreciated. If i cant fix it i will probably just V8 it, but rather wouldn't it is a fun ride the way it is.

check grounds and make sure they are all good

Is there any common areas for grounds to go bad on these rigs?

yes! it is on top of the engine, 12mm bolt, you can get it with a swivel and extension.

sweet thanks i will try that i also have had a dead battery problem after a couple of days no clue what that is think i tracked it down to a bad door switch, but i read somewhere that a voltage drop will not allow the secondary injectors to fire is that a possibilty too my battery may be to low never see it above 11.5 volts with the car not running never had meter on when it was running but the gauge says it is at about 12.5 to 13 but i know the in dash gauges r never that accuarte. any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Ok so i see the ground i think is it at thee back of the engine on drivers side. Also should there be a body ground i do not see one and the battery cable only attaches to the block. I will add one but wondering if this could be another problem. I went to go pick it up today as it was still at friends house dint want to get it stuck on the side of the road so had my wife follow me in the truck just in case and it did it again. I just pulled over and let it run for a bit and then it seemed to go away and i continued home with it. Wondering if the computer just had to relearn or something did not have power to it for a couple weeks before all this happened. Again any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as i am flying blind and there is no one around me here in Washington state that works on them that i know of.

computer doesnt learn, EVER.

the negative cable attaches to the block, and then goes to the body, but its not really easy to see.

there should be a little ground wire from the engine to the firewall

humm ok is there any other things besides a ground issue just seems wierd that it only does it when it warm up and then goes away.

In Olympia, Wa I do know one guy we do work for but he is always so vauge with his answers, i just end up chasing my tail. I am sure if I waved some money at him he would just fix it but I want to know how to do it for myself ya know. Thats y I came here but I guess my problem isnt a very common one, thought someone would have had this happen and just tell me where to look and that would be that but never that easy I guess LOL
