I found a 2nd gen RX-7, with a j-spec 13B cosmo engine, a Haltech fuel management system, big turbo j-spec topmout intercooler, new tires, new kevlar clutch, new brakes. Would I be stupid not to buy this? any response is greatly appreciated.

oh and j-spec=rebuild (just a word of advice)

Daiv Makitsu 09-21-2002 09:42 PM

he's asking 2500, and it was street ported, so it must have already been rebuilt, i need to check though

I want to clear the air about j-specs...

J-spec DOES NOT mean rebuild, necessarily. Its definitely a case by case basis, whether you should rebuild it or not. The logic behind the jspec=rebuild is, its easier to rebuild the motor b4 it gets put in the car than it is afterwards.

For example,I got a j-spec and its in great condition. The turbo has little to no play, no leaks, great compression, and had very little carbon buildup when I checked the rotor faces. J9FD3s, correct me if I'm wrong, but you didn't rebuild your 20B(j-spec) either, did you?

The most important thing to realize when you buy ANY used engine is you never know what you are going to get. All I can recommend is, go through a reputable dealer.

I got my 13BT from FC3S.org, as did J9FD3s with his 20B. If my understanding of mike's 20B is right, both motors are in good to great condition and run well, without rebuilding the motor. I think TurboII got his j-spec from FC3S.org, as well, runs great. But there are always exceptions, like rotaryman88's j-spec, which didn't run so great.

Another suggestion is to stay away from corksport motors. I've heard nothing but bad things about their j-specs. Ask Vosko.

I'm not trying to promote or criticze any one business. Just stating my experience with the j-specs.

later

mike

BTW if you don't buy that car, let me know, I want it!

2500 seems cheap to me, especially if it has an aftermarket turbo, porting etc. Ask if he has any receipts on the porting and other stuff. If he doesn't than I would assume its not. Seems like this guy spent some money and time on his car, and letting it go for the price of an N/A is kind of fishy. But hey if it runs good, even if he doesn't have the receipts, 2500 is not a bad price for a turbo.

you are correct https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png . if its an 89+ buy it its cheap, even non running 89t2's go for 2k around here. if its not an 89t2, then 1000-2000 would be good depending on hoe well its runs. that cheap and there is something wrong with it.
