Red face

well...I got an 86 fc from my best friend's future brother-in-law for $300. when I got it it had fresh coolant, fresh oil, new gas and oil filter, and a CRAPLOAD of seafoam in the gas(it was fun getting that out...1 bottle to roughly 1 gallon that was in the tank. ), and it wasn't running.

the crap I need to fix is(now, this is just a start...)

need to eventually rebuild the motor...107k miles...its almost due

get the engine to idle properly...its idling about 2k when it wants to, when it doesnt, it surges from about 300 to 1500~2k.

brake pedal and clutch pedal are both empty...need to see if either work.

seeing as the car was sitting for 11 YEARS before I got it, I imagine it needs all kinds of new hoses.

one injector is very loose, which means I might as well put some good 550cc injectors in.

brakes

clutch

transmission...shifter is LOOSE...I need to get a vid before I fix it. its pathetic how much play is in it.

tires are dry-rotted all around, and one back is cracked open.

need a new dash B-A-D

and needs paint

but, I got it cheap and wanted a project car...noiw I have one, and whoo boy...she'll be a money pit...lmao

can anyone give me a suggestion on where to start? theres so much that needs to happen, I dont know what to knock out first..

Im new here BTW so, hi all.

it does sound like mine!

mine ran and idled @2k cause the thermowax is bad, sounds like you've got more going on. its a toss up weather you start with that, or fix the brakes/clutch first.

expect to replace the hydraulics, but i dunno mine had chunks of crap behind the seals, so they were not sitting square. i took it apart and cleaned it, and its been fine. i did loop a line around so i could make sure it didnt leak on the bench first though

@107k the motor should be fine still. big two worries are the water seals and the rotor oil seals. so if it doesnt smoke, and doesnt use coolant, than its a runner.

enjoy, ive had fun taking things apart, and trying to get it to work, and so far i've had good luck with it

RicerJ: Im close to houston, tx

j9fd3s: hmm...what are some other symptoms of the thermowax being out of whack? and as far as the brakes and clutch...I kinda like the clutch stuck to the floor while trying to figure out whats-up under the hood...lmao. after she's running right, Ill do that. how hard is it to slip another clutch in these things...I remember on my chevy p/u it was a b**** to stab the tranny back up there...this cars alot lower than a truck too...so I wonder.lol. and with the rebuild thing...I have a stupidly dumb question about a noise...

what could that rattle be?? and the idle there is nothing compaired to what it was doing earlier...was flooded when I first tried to start, and after it got past its little stumble and die routine, it was letting out a good bit of bluish smoke...I think it was mainly fuel...didnt have an oily or sweet smell.

the thermowax is this little wax pellet, like a thermostat, that pushes the throttle open when the engine is cold. mine is just stuck, high idle never comes down.

clutch isnt too bad, your problem is the hydraulics though, which is all right on top

tyty. Ill check on that. anything I should check for the rough, surging idle? sprayed the vaccum lines w/ wd40...didnt help. kinda stuck now. lol

I think Im about to go see if my plug-wires are at advance auto yet...I ordered them about 5 days ago...I think they forgot about me.

forgot to say about the idle...

anything below about 1200 rpm is ROUGH...like shake the car rough...move the motor at least an inch both ways rough...

i would check compression. if that is good, then maybe you have an injector thats no good or something

it sounds like maybe its only running on 1 rotor or something
