Thought you guys may wanna see the car that gets butchered every time a 20B engine finds its way to you.

Here are some pics of my JC Cosmo.

Its a 95 model series-II with 30,000km on the clock.

Naturally, its 20B powered.............. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

the more i play with the 20b the more i want the car it comes in, but this is america! we cant have anything cool people would sue!

Jeff20B 08-04-2003 12:42 PM

I was saddened when I learned of the cruel fate of HB Cosmos, because I wanted one a few years back. Now the JC Cosmo is under attack. :(

You posted a problem, DMRH. What is a good solution? Japan is a throw-away society. What can we as rotorheads do? The only things I can think of are to support (purchase) the RX-8 and buy 20B parts from Mazdatrix, since they both come form Mazda. What else can we do? Show Mazda that we like the three rotor engine and would like to see it in a new model?

That is a mighty fine car. I would not mind owning one of them babies

Jeff20B 08-04-2003 02:24 PM

Thanks to the internet, a rotary powered luxury car would probably sell really well here. Mazda just has to start puting rotaries in lots of cars again like they did in the '70s. I'd buy one.

What is it man.

Scary part about what you said is that Mazda had fullintentions sending it to the USA under the "AMATAI" sales channel back in 91.

The export Cosmo was to be called the RX-8 from what I heard. I know a guy that actually has a genuine RX-8 badge from back then, they where literally that close to doing it.

Wow, that's interesting. Must have been all those extra emissions devices allowing too much heat to accumulate.

I wish Mazda would stop renaming their cars for different markets. The Eunos Roadster/MX-5/Miata for example. What's up with that? I won't even get into all the different names out there for all their rotary powered vehicles.

Never heard of the carpet catching on fire. I have had a Cosmo in the shop running at 1000rpm - 6000rpm for 50 minutes as we diagnosed a problem. The exhaust was glowing red from top to bottom.

Carpet got hot, thats about it.

They had a "pre-convertor" on the dump pipe like the (92-95) series-6 RX-7 did & that got hot but was double shielded. Main (twin) CATS where under the car in the air flow. There is a reflective aluminium exhaust shield that bolts onto the underside to reflect all heat.

An exhaust temp sensor in the "Pre-CAT" detected the temps rising & at a preset level would switch the ECU into "overheat" mode, dumping crazy amounts of fuel into the exhaust to try & cool it. Works well actually, until you modify the exhaust & change the flow characteristics.

Driving around in summer, you can feel extra heat at your feet (rhd) from those twin turbos.

i bet, i can open the hood on my fc and see where the turbos have baked the fresh paint, and my intake.

Somebody needs to import the Cosmo and work with CARB (or whatever state your in) set the precedence, than others could follow (like the Skyline), who is volunteering to spend their time and money to do that?
