Does anyone know the exact metal used in the fat intermediate plate? I need to repair one and need to know what metal. Thanks.

"cast iron" is a very vague, imprecise term. The chemical composition or even just the casting process and heat treatment can make the difference between an unweldable mess that shatters before it deforms, like a brake rotor, or something that is quite malleable, like an engine rotor.

They don't call it Detroit Wonder Metal just because it's fairly inexpensive and commonly used.
