Forum screwd up on me other day lol.

For sure colin if someone is just wanting NA or doing what it takes to get the 20b to run in there car I think it is posible to get it in under 10k. Well it is because j9 said he has done it. I still feel you may get let down if you insist it can be done for well under so I like to keep my numbers higher and come in lower.

twice! paul and ted did it once too. 10k is a good number for getting a jdm engine with stock turbos running in the car.

Motors can be had for 3-4k. Everything else is the expensive part. Rebuild, subframes, manifolds/headers, intake, rad, wiring, fuel, EMS etc tec. Adds up quick and there are lots of unexpected surprises.

It appears some people just don't have resources. Or have never made contact with anyone who has resources.

You say "10K? That's gotta be ghetto". I hear "I don't know where to look for reasonable prices".

For example, You could go to mazda for oil cooler lines for your car, they want 320 dollars. Or, goto a hydraulics shop and have them make the same hoses in metric, only rated for 3000 psi instead of 120, and they ask not even a quarter of what mazda wants. Doesn't seem that ghetto to me. The key is using your head and knowing where to look. Motor mounts? Make some. 20 bucks in raw steel, TOPS. Big radiator, go speak with drag shops, retro fit a huge aluminum core that's suppost to be a chevy for a third of the price as the direct fit junk that's overpriced when you type in "RX7" at google.com. The inlet in the wrong spot? Do something about it. Even if you have to spend the 40 bucks for a radiator shop to move it. You're still way ahead. Some people can't wrap their head around getting out of their chair and going shopping. Rad shop, hydraulic shop, injection shop. Goto a truck shop for IC piping and connectors. The stuff is dirt cheap, and top notch too. The difference between "ractive" IC connectors and international connectors is international's have to handle 20-30lbs of boost for over 200,000 miles. You can't tell me because it wasn't marketed to you directly means that it either won't work, or isn't good enough. Aren't sure if they have your size? Try it out. Go shopping. Surely they have something for you if they make engines between 5 litres and 15 litres.

What would make it ghetto is how you retrofit your just-as-good-if-not-better parts to your chassis.

If you "gotta have it now" and only buy the first thing in front of your face, then sure. Likely well over 10 grand.

I appologize though and digress, I've been fancying an N/A 20B project. I would go back and say at least 10k to iceblue if turbo then, but that's for brand new stuff, no rebuilt snails. But still. For that matter, don't shop online for a turbo. Go OUT shopping. You will save money.

That post is like music to my ears. But I think you need a little technical know how before you can appreciate what can be done inexpensively. That said I would hope you have some if one were thinking about venturing into a 20b project.
