Is it better to use an ECU for a 20B if you want to do a 20B swap into an FC or would it be better to use an aftermarket computer like a Haltech or Wolf?

If it is better to use a 20B ECU, does it matter if that ECU is for an automatic even if you are running a standard transmission?

j9fd3s 04-26-2005 08:41 AM

that depends. the stock ecu is a little limited, but it is reliable.

basically to get all the codes to go away out of the stock ecu you need to make it think its still hooked up to the transmission.

I use an Electromotive TEC-1. The TEC-3 is cool system to use. Reasonably priced. Lots of GM parts used.

Jeff20B 05-01-2005 03:36 AM

TEC systems are so limited. That's just my opinion.

cosmo105 05-01-2005 03:49 AM

It depends on what your trying to do with it. I've also looked into this system

What do you think?

Midnightdriver 05-01-2005 04:34 AM

haltech e6x will run the 20 very well.

20b 3rd gen 05-01-2005 04:52 PM

Haltech e11v2 will run it better

how?

Jeff20B 05-02-2005 02:46 PM

Since I don't have any hard facts to base it on, I can't explain how very well. All I know is the ECU I hooked up is tons more flexible than a TEC. I'll find out soon how well it runs the engine.

I am very impressed with the tecIII. we switched a PFC car to the tec and it ran like stock, and this is with a big single and extended SP...

Motec is a $$$$ toy isn't it? I looked into a Motec system and it seemed that if I wasn't into some serious logging it really wasn't worth it?

If you don't mind me asking, what did your MOTEC system cost you?

Jeff20B 05-04-2005 03:09 PM

I won't sing praises to my ECU until after I've gotten the engine to run.

the list price for all of the Motec system in my car is gonna be close to $20,000 once it's finished. *I* will have about $5,000 invested in it however.

i drove mine 1000mile round trip to sevenstock and it was fine. it didnt start having problems until later. i lived with this for almost a year

relocating the ecu to a cooler dryer place helped it a lot

Rub20B 05-08-2005 11:04 AM

Can't you just put a little 92mm or 120mm computer fan on it?

I'm using a Motec M8. It doesn everything I want it to, plus. I bought it used from titanmotorsports for $3500 with the wideband option unlocked.
