I've been trying to find some info on hooking up an aftermarket tach to a 20B... no luck so far OTHER than an external signal conditioner. I'm just wondering if anyone has used the outputs from a Electromotive Tec3R to make a tach work properly??? It's a Autometer 5" tach if that makes a difference....
Anyone? |
You should be able to use the signal from the ECU to one of the leading coils to drive the tach, I would also check to see if the TEC3 has a dedicated tach output, I know other computers include that feature, but I am not familiar with the TEC3. Who made your exhaust manifold for you GT42R and how do you like it, I was planning on running the same turbo on my car.

Thanks Rich, Rotorsports in Kannapolis, NC built it... as far as how i like it, dunno yet.. haven't driven and played with the car much yet. PM me your email addy and i'll send you some pics of it.
The Tec3r has a dedicated tach output, i just haven't dug deep enough into the manual (which i just got a copy of tonight) to see if i can calibrate it yet. |
if you took the tach signal off of a coil it would be like a 6 cylinder. i presume that the tach output from the ECU is configurable to whatever you want...

right now, the tach is reading half of what it is supposed to... (2k rpm on the engine is 1k on the tach)... i'm about to start playing around with the tach signal from the ECU instead of the coil packs and i think i may have it figured out.. I'll post results since i haven't found the answer anywhere yet other than people saying that i have to buy an external converter box to make it work. For the price, i think the Tec3R should be able to do it...
