Hey guys and girls. I have come across this forum a couple of times in the past whilst looking for a few rotary bits. Anyway thought i would post up my FD build and its twists and turns. Some ot you may have seen this but for those who haven't here you go:
As the car was shortlt after i bought it Attachment 17534 Attachment 17535 Didn'ttake long for the new mods to start comming in: Attachment 17536 Attachment 17537 Flatted for paint and being painted Attachment 17538 Attachment 17539 Attachment 17540 All done Attachment 17541 Attachment 17542 |

Now my inital plan was to build this as an N/A with 51mm Peripherals with fuel injected ITBS. So i set to work on the exhaust manifold and centre section:
Attachment 17517 Attachment 17518 Attachment 17519 Whilst building all of this i got offered a GT45 turbo at a decent price. WHO could turn that down. So it took a harsh turn in the turbo direction!!!!! Attachment 17520 Attachment 17521 Fortuanatly the centre section is still useable so i set about building the rear section of the exhaust. Dual 2.5" centre exits (yes fuel cell will be in the boot). Attachment 17522 Today i started the Turbo manifold. Not much just a quick pic off the phone. Kind of makes sense if you look at it. Attachment 17523 So thats it up to date. I'll try and keep them comming as i go down the line. Still TONS to do !!! |

Now with the acquirement of a spray booth the body needed updating as it was wasn't what i wanted : https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 I liked the white but it was abit tooooo white so i set about blaking some trim pieces and a nice painted detail down the middle.... old skool racer inspired: https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637260 |

Fuel cell was needed.......... Nothing off the shelf was the right shape so set about building my own... The only thing i don't have a pic of in the inside of the tank with the baffles... You get the idea. Will eventually be running twin external pumps as the tank has built in 1.75ltr pot underneither.

I modified the engine mounts on the Hinsdon subframe to move the motor back as far as the stock bulk head would allow
Before https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637393 After https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637393 Other bits got a tweek, Took 2" off the high of the stock inlent manifold. This simply allow the bonnet to close. Stock fuel line got -6 fittings as they are plenty large enough inside for fuel flow. Unfinshed Pics of the porting. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637393 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637393 Stock port on the right. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637393 |

This was how the car sat then for a long time.
Few more tweeks where done eventually, with the fuel cell in the boot there was alot of space to have some fun with the exhaust. But first the diffuser. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 Now the pipes, mid pipe. I don't usually use the Magna flow boxs but i had it left over from another job so why the hell not. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 Rear mufflers https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637454 |

Right now there is an issue with have an array of saws and cutting tools in a workshop. I was sitting on the floor of the workshop crossleged with a cup of tea. Front bumper off the car and a template for an intercooler and rad set up that i wanted to use. Next to me an air saw, 6" cut off wheel and battary resipricating saw. Sat there i was thing. That engine needs a dry sump. Then the engine could come down abot 3". Then i thougth well if its comming down it may aswell go back....

Few more accessaries i came across:
Some Mazdaspeed LeMans. These are 2peice splits. I have spoken to image wheels who but all accounts can indeed step them from 17-18" and from 8J ft and 9J rr to 10J front and 12J rear. Thats for the wide body thats pending. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637558 Also got a more aero based wing. Could do with being wider but i'll sort that out after the widening, https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637558 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637558 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637558 This at the moment is how the car sits. I'm currently knocking ideas around on the old computer on designs. Thinking something Super GT inspired. We'll see. |

Now very little have i done to this recently as i have been comming up with ideas and veiws on how i want this to progress:
Turbo placement will now sit in front of the engine pretty much over the top of the front wheels due to the dustance the engine has been moved back. I'll be changing the T6 turbine hosing for a 1.15 or 1.28 A/R turbine housing. More room less wieght and lots of puff, pictured here with the T6 housing still and part of the 3.5" down pipe. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637653 Now much of the car will be tube frmaed once the blk of the cage goes in in a month or two once i have some more room in the workshop. But in an effort to give myself a hge head ache and do something different: https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637653 OH cut the prop! https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637653 |

Well its never a bad thing when one of these boxes turns up
https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637710 New turbine housing for the GT42. The current one is a HUGE T6 but only has 1.1 A/R.... New one is a samller T4 housing BUT has larges 1.28 A/R so a much better fit to my specs.... Also the outlet on the T4 is more suited to my set up being 3.5" HAppy days New one on the left and old on the right, also turbo with the 1.28A/R on.... Manifold time i think. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637710 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637710 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637710 |

Some long awaited bits for the exhaust. Lots to do and a few very late nights are on the horizon i think! Building 2" nominal bore manifold 3 into 1 21"-23" long primaries into the T4 turbo flange. The reason on such long primaries is to make more peak power. There is so much exhaust energy form a 20B triple rotor its more than likely that the mid power band will be uneffected. The new turbo housing has a 3.5" outlet so the exhaust system will be matched to this running down the car and be split into dual 3" for the side exit systems. There are a couple of reasons for doing this...... 1 because i want too and i can and 2 with not exhaust system fowling anything at the very rear of the car the diffuser can run all the way from the rear subframe totoally uninterupted which will make for far better aero. So that covers that i think. II wont be really getting on this for a while but here are some pics. The area where the muffler are in the car will be cut out and the floor remodeled to accomidate!

In the mean time whilst waiting for some panels to dry in the oven thought i'd do a couple of bits on the old 20B beast to get the rear of the exhaust set up closer to being finished. The holes cut both sides now. Tunnels now put in and welded up.

Wacked a dummy in there for now so you get a good idea of what its going to lool like. I can build the final part of the exhaust until the wide arch kit is built up so i know what length the tips need to be.
https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 some of the inside and one with the stock seat for the non belivers on the space issue https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 Started to think about the intercooler position. I have a biltz unit sitting about that never sold so i have given it the chop to work with my set up. I think i will probibly go with a mild V-mounted angle as the cooler is quiet thick Won't be worry about it too much for now. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1350637981 |

little bit done on the trans tunnel now that both tunnels for the mufflers are all tacked in. Until i get my hand on the rest of the manifold parts i can really build the drivers side of the trans tunnel as i need to build it around the down pipe.

Bit of tweeking to be done but with the car on jacks you get a referance of how far out the wheels sit. Obviously these are only 9" wide not the 13" that will be needed....

Not a great deal I'm afraid. I have been concentrating more on my fc recently . A few more bits done.
I have been looking at car as I was talking about turbos with a mate of mine. Havevbeen considering re thinking the location. Originally planned was to run it across the front of the engine to keep the weight in the middle of the cat. But after having spoken to the guys at mazdatrix and looked at a dyno sheets I think the share 90 degree exit of the down pipe from the turbo will cause exhaust issues. So I might run it like this instead. Would also mean shorter primaries which isn't a bad thing. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1358201984 Well whilst debating turbo locations back to the pressing issue of the body. Did a bit this evening. Touch of filler in there and a quicky guide coat that I'll flat back in the morning. Still need some rounding off and blending into the body but it nice to see it coming together Whole car https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1358201984 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1358201984 Rear wing https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1358201984 |
